I grow in soil and all I use is Espoma Garden Tone or DynaGro Grow and Bloom. It's simple and works great.

I think one of the issues is over watering too. My basic water rule is wait till the pot is light when you lift it, and dry at least a couple inches down, then roughly 1 quart of water to gal of pot size.

For the set up you have your plants look good so must be doing something right! I've used MG before with no issues and good results. Only 2 things I would do different is add some amendments to the promix, manure, bone meal, and some worm castings, and try a fabric pot. They worked great for me.
