pretty sure the opposite of this is true... lumin/watt output is better with cfl because less watts are spent as heat energy. You recreate HID intensity not by having more watts of cfl but by being able to have them 2" above your canopy, and by the fact that you can spread your lumins around...

cfl+led is a good way to go, but like karr said, those ufo's are actually quite wide, my spectra is at least 12" in diameter I assume the blackstar is similar. Drop $150 for a decent grow tent and you'll be in business
