that would be your problem. you soil has enough nutrients for the early stages of growth, but also enough to kill some weaker seedlings. i start my seeds in small cups of neutral yard dirt and then transplant into soil that contains a little bit of nutrients when the cotyledons start to shrivel...

what are you using now?

are there nutrients in your medium? are you germing with paper towel method, or just planting them in the soil and keeping it moist?
