nope, unless you know the plant it came from. bottom line, you truly cant tell anything about a seed by its appearance, except for the rare case of maturity. and even then, like i said, it doesn't necessarily determine viability either.

ignore leaf trichs, you want to get an estimate of 'overall' ripeness of trichs on actual calyxes all over the plant. average that with pistil recession, swelling, and foliage color changes, to watch for your window.

as far as i know the only thing you might be able accurately determine is its maturity (smaller lighter ones are probably younger, fatter striped older). Once again though, that doesn't necessarily influence viability, it just 'can'.

if this is so, you didnt need to add moisture. if they were still wet inside, but dry outside, then the moisture just hasnt traveled yet. adding extra moisture only slowed your cure down and introduced more possibilities for mold. IMO.
