Like Nuthin said... it all depends. You can use a cloner an get roots really fast, or just snip an plant. I prefer to cut, scour the stem, dip in rootin hormone, an plant in a jiffy pot. I think jiffy is the better way to go than straight into soil. The roots can grow through the jiffy material...

Normal stud separation is like 16" if that helps.

Well I still think you need more light an I personally do not like CFL tubes. You can only put them in so many positions. I would much rather use a inexpensive power strip an then use the polarized + Y-adapters to get a good concentration on the light. Here is one I put together a few days ago...

I use both the Jiffy cups & pellets. I like them, but i do not replant with them though. I like the roots to get all of the fresh soil as possible.
