HElp from any and all LED heads.....

5 years down the line there will be LED bulbs more efficient than your panel. Currently philips already has bulbs that are 117 lm/w and Osram has 122 lm/w ones. That is with driver losses and diffuser losses included. So if the average driver has 10% energy loss, they are equivalent to 130-135...

    Led Users Unite!

Only a small percentage of light gets used by photosynthesis. The rest of the light that doesn't get reflected becomes heat, since reflection is never 100%, all light (that doesn't get used for photosynthesis) eventually becomes heat energy. In a closed box, 315 watt of CFL, CMH, LED...

All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

20W Osram Parathom is bright as fuck, eye hurting already with the diffuser on. Couldn't pull/twist the diffuser off so used a hacksaw which was a bother. Going to use cutting pliers next time. Getting time to germinate the pepper seeds.

2x 315 watt would be less heat than 900w. You can assume pretty much all energy that a growlight (or any light) uses becomes heat. A small amount gets stored in the biomass of the plant, but that's not really significant.

Citizen version 6 available ! RIU lagging ?

COBs likely will never be standard mostly because on large scale it's simpler to reflow solder chips on a board, and there are some advantages of having a multitude of lower powered boards. Big COBs are giant hotspots, better distrubuted spread with diodes spread out. Cooling of a larger surface...

Really, many of the COB fanboys are barely one step above those who swear by their CFLs. Or people who buy ebay cobs that are just as expensive as a citizen 1212.

Effiency race... is it necessary ?

Or if you're growing stuff that isn't worth a few dollars for every gram.

The militant cob fanboys managed to get Greengenes garden thread closed  Only noticed it now coming back from a layoff.

Effiency race... is it necessary ?

Depends on the area you're in. Also as a poster above has implied, use a weaker exhaust fan.

    Advanced Platinum LED?

The thing that pisses me off the most is that just because it grows, people claim it was worth the money. Mars, platinum, blackdog etc. etc. don't renew their tech. Any recent Philips or Osram led light bulb that can put out 100 lm/w before diffuser pop off, beats those lights. For way less...

    Advanced Platinum LED?

Productivity is literally a definition of yield. (to be fruitful or productive) So yes, gram per watt is a valid question.

    Advanced Platinum LED?

What is off the charts according to you? How much gram, how much watt? I see that panel does have some Cree chips in it. Bit overpriced though.

    Caution: Stay away from Hydroponicshut.com!

It's mostly that those companies don't renew the diodes on panels as LED manufacturers bring out newer more efficient gens. To the point where good light bulbs are significantly better and cheaper than most if not all of those panels by now.

The amber peaks at 600nm. Of the Vero Decors only the 80cri 2500k Décor Food Bread & Bakery Vero peaks at 600nm. The 97cri 27/30k peak at 630/40 And so does the 1750K decor.

The blue is probably nice for the efficiency. But I don't think the amber would be any better for growlights unless you really like the look the colour of a HPS but with higher CRI.

All COB Users - Lettuce Grow Challenge!!

Going to grow pepper again. Going to test out Osram's Parathom classic 20W. Only draws 20W for 2452 lumens. (including driver loss) (122 lm/w) Hopefully Osram doesn't lie about their bulbs power consumption like Volkswagen did about diesel emissions. Compared to Tastyleds T1-V196 it's very...
