Hid setups are pretty noob proof. just hang it and they love it. Hid lights helped me cut through the crap and start growing without adding lumens and wats vs actual watts and 27k vs 25k and w.e else. When you have no idea what you're doing (like me) get a big light!

Clones are one thing I don't really know about. But they don't look too terribly purple. I've had seedlings turn purple and stunt for a week before resuming growth. That was a temperature thing for me though.

Yea I used MG on my first attempt, and the top would crust up to the point water would just sit on top like on duck feathers, and not penetrate. I pulled roots up scratching the top all the time. Op, Fox farm has a seed starting soil called "light warrior." That's what I use.
