Here's a pic of one of my buds - getting pretty frosty as you can see (though the picture doesn't do it justice). Not the most frosty, but one which I could easily snap a pic of. :)

FWIW, I use tap water (let out to sit overnight) and don't bother checking PH. I used it for hempy and clones and it seems fine to use.

I capped my perlite with hydroton. No algae problems (~10wks in). For my drain hole, I have a spigot (black plastic) and a 1/2" hose (black vinyl). Never had any issues with gunk of algae around the exit.
