Bad Teacher

My daughter is in fourth grade this year and she really dislikes her teacher and it's showing on her grades.

We knew the teacher had a reputation of being a bitch but it's turning out to be worse than we thought. She bullies the students and doesn't make for a fun/comfortable learning environment.

She's had complaints from parents to the school board and nothing has been done. A couple other parents are sending their kids to private school for the next few years.

The really shitty thing is that she's also the fifth grade teacher so my daughter would have to have her another year after this one and that could ruin her for life.

The thing is is that the school is only a mile away from home and right across the street from where my wife works so it's convenient if anything happens.

I'm thinking about moving her to another school within the district, about 10 miles away, but then we'll have to drop her off and pick her up everyday.

Our family doesn't follow any religion so private school's not an option, and it's an hour bus ride.

Otherwise homeschooling.

Any suggestions/input? This is stressing me out.:-?

Bro I know exactly what you mean. My boys have horrible teachers and we are thinking bout moving them as well but our other school is 10 miles away as well. I'm in the same boat as you bro.

Do what I do. Smoke a bowl and put on some music :)

Hope it all works out for you and your family 420.

Thanks giggles. We have parent teacher conferences tomorrow and we're thinking about hearing what the teacher says and maybe give her some suggestions of our own. Maybe see how it goes till next quarter.

This wouldn't be so bad if it was just the one school year but being 4th and 5th grade I don't know if I want to put her through that.

We've heard about this teacher making children wet their pants in class, nothing like that has happened to my daughter yet but I'm afraid of what I'll do if something like that does happen.

Tenure is a bitch. If 10 miles is all it takes in this day and age, I think you have the immediate solution. It sounds like you are a very concerned parent and I commend you for that. Seems a small sacrifice to me to travel 10 miles.

Perhaps get with another parent and have them pull their kid also and between the 4 of you work out a delivery / pickup system. Another method would be to go to the new school and attend a PTA; take the floor and ask if anybody has an attending child that resides in your neck of the woods. You could arrange transportation with them also. Usually though the school knows who these people are and could provide you this info. What I'm getting at is 10 miles is so do-able ! Good luck .

AFTER you settle your princess in, submit an official complaint to the Super of the district. It's tough , public schools are a good o' gal network.

It's almost a straight shot to the other school we're thinking about putting her in but Winter gets pretty bad up here in the north woods, nothing we're not use to though.

I've already talked with my parents and they said they could pick her up on the days me or my wife can't. Our schedules are pretty open in the morning so dropping her off wouldn't be a problem.

Homeschooling is another option. I know they're making it easier to do online classes for K through 12. Then I don't have to worry about her getting another dumbass teacher.

Anybody have experience with home schooling? How easy/hard is it?

online school is difficult, time consuming, and monotonous. your daughter will not enjoy it in the slightest bit and will never learn as much as she would had she gone to a real school with hands-on learning. i highly recommend you do not enroll her in online school.

they are everywhere (bad teachers), my daughter came home and asked if we could move to a different school district because of her third grade teacher. She didn't admit why, just said "lets move".

That teacher had a place to discipline kids, she called it "the land of the lonely"

i think homeschooling for 2 years wouldnt be too bad, you have a pretty good place for it, in terms of the farmland and could do some extra studies on things like that but i feel a child that young might miss her social life and friends, could always do sleepovers every other weekend thoughe33333333333[p2p-[ thats freya saying hi. LOL

you could also maybe put her in dance or swim if you havent already for another social part

There was a teacher at my junior high that had several sexual harassment allegations b4 I was there. When he was my teacher I saw him purposely drop a pencil so that a girl in my class had to pick it up so I called him on it in front of all the students. He actually had it for me soo bad he gave me a D in his class even though I was an A/B student. My parents took things up with the principle and my grade was ultimately changed to a B. Perverted teacher was on tenure though so 2 years later my sister had the creep and he have her a hard time too.

When we talked to her about going to another school or homeschooling she jumped at the idea. She really hates where she's at now so I can't imagine anything being any worse.

And it would just be for the next year and a half, till she's in middle school. She's in gymnastics and her friends live fairly close so it wouldn't screw up her social life too much.

than there ya go, obvious answer is obvious i would start googling about homeschooling than.
it is however going to take alot of time up as a parent to do it though.i would imagine you need to be smart enough (which im sure are) to remember grade 5 and 6 class, but im sure we've all seen are you smarter than a 5th grader, lol so im sure theres some studying you need to brush up on .

she is most likely jumping at the idea because she really really doesnt wanna be at school and for the first few months shes gunna love being at home but than she will start most likely to miss the recess with the other kids.
however seems like shes got a good social life around her and gymnastics is social as well.

dont forget people who transition from elementary to middle ot highschool always end up having "clicks" with the schools they previously went too, this could go either bad for her in middle or good

you could also fight fight fight the school board, canada or specifically my area has never had problems with teachers, theyve always been nothing but nice to me and other students

Seems to be a growing problem with public schools down here. Teachers don't care anymore and classroom sizes are way too big.

She's in a class with 4th and 5th combined right now and the work jumping back and forth is confusing the kids.

I have k12 online classes up on another window it looks like homeschooling has gotten a lot easier/better than when I was younger.

yeah i had been in a split class before but thats because there wasnt enough of either, didnt mind it too much they kinda put the classes "together" in terms of teaching, like one grade would just have harder work

being a good parent is all about sacrifice, give till it hurts and then some, it'll pay off in the end. good to see other fathers so involved with their children's lives and well being. good luck

Our understanding is that the teacher isn't taking the time to teach the classes separately. She's teaching primarily 5th grade and letting the fourth grade fail when they can't keep up.

Homeschooling is one good way to go for different reasons. There is a lot of online support now. So you aren't as isolated.

If I were facing this I'd quietly wire my kid. Then after listening I'd make my decision.

Too bad the whole class doesn't want that teacher gone. When I was in forth grade my class made the music teacher cry one day and she never came back.

I really thought about that. I know at least one other parent said they want to sit in class with their child and see what's going on.

Why isn't there cameras in all classrooms? There should be.

The whole class does want her gone. She's a mean old cunt and won't take a hint that she shouldn't be teaching anymore. I think she's past that 20 year mark where it doesn't matter what she does anymore, she's just waiting to retire and collect a check.

Kids these days must be better behaved. We humiliated her by ruining our wizard of oz class musical/play in front of all the parents. I think by the time she was done with my class she was scarred for life. The teacher the next year told my mom that my group of classmates was the worst they ever had in 20 yrs lol
