I'd try it. Hate IPA's but love stouts.Fremont Dark Star Imperial Oatmeal Stout. It's yummy.
Down & Dirty: 2-Row Pale, Roast Barley, C-60, Carafa 2, and Chocolate malts with Flaked Oats and Magnum and Willamette hops.
ABV: 8.0% IBU: 50
Color: Deep black
Aroma: Roasted coffee, toast, baking chocolate, dried fruits and warming spices
Flavor: Moderate sweetness and bitterness with slight acidity and umami in a thick body with smooth, coating carbonation

Malt is too dark for me. That brewery makes a wonderful Tripel, unorthodox orthography notwithstanding.I'm a big fan of ale's. Fat Tire is a good one.
although it's a shame they sold out to the "big guys", it was an employee owned company and the people that had been working there for a long time retired with a big fat check. sad they sold out but cool that alot of people made alot of moneyThat brewery

i generally am on board with your posts. but IPA = blah!! we just had some hacker pschorr hefes here with a slice of lemon.The polite way to put this is to say that this is where our tastes diverge
My favorite beer was Lagunitas "Hop Stoopid" IPA, but it's been discontinued leaving me to thrash about beer selections trying to find a suitable subsitute, but as yet to do so

There was a brewery closer your way made something fairly aggressive called Hoptologist. I liked their Breaking Bud.
