So, I know there's 1000 places for Blueberry, as I continue my search for that pre99....and I know a lot of ppl are saying AKBB Vintage Blueberry (which I'm about to acquire).

I've got packs of at least 20 different Blueberry or Blueberry crosses.

My question though....why not take 1 or many of these blueberries and S1 them?? Especially Dutch Passion who still works with the original genetics.....my theory is, if the original Blueberry gets S1'd (and I know dj doesn't have the original anymore but as far as I know Dutch passion does) then wouldn't it open the gene pool and if hunted that Pre 99 could essentially be found??

I'm just wondering why nobody seems to have tried this yet??

I may do so; but my original plan was to cross them all to each other and hopefully bring those Blueberry terps out strongly

Dutch passion does have seeds that originated from Dj but they ruined it by breeding away from the mutants.

DP's blueberry were the 2nd pack of seeds I bought back in 2002, right about the time they acquired blueberry seeds from Dj and he helped them pick a male, and all 4 females from that pack were bomb.

2 had purple stems, slow twisted leaf mutants and straight bb tasting. Other 2 had green stems, vigorous monsters compared to the purple stems but totally lacked that bb flavor, not bad tastes but no where as tasty as the mutants.

I tried their blueberry in 2010-11. Both regs and feminized and shit was nothing like those purple stem old plants but closer to the green stem pheno. Now if someone who never grew that old purple stem blueberry smelled the plants they'd probably say it smells blueberry like but not even close to me.

Im guessing you might fine a great pheno if you pop enough beans. But I've found better blueberry flavors from crosses using the real Santa Cruz blue dream.

If you have that many crosses already, how do you know it's not in there without growing it? Do you truly think an f1 or f2 pack will have all the phenotypes dialed in to only 1 or 2 phenos per 10 or 12 seeds?

The terps you seek are therefore, logically, already in your packs. You have over 200 chances(assuming 10 seeds per pack and you have at least 20 according to your post) at getting a blueberry terp plant, if you get 25% female that's still 50 plants to go through.

Perhaps inst3ad of having FOMO, you should get to growing, as it seems like you have alot of work

Thanks for the info/input.

I know they bred away from mutants; but theoretically wouldn't S1ing them bring the mutants back, being it opens up the genepool?

I recently ran JOTI Blueberry and it's been curing in jars for a bit over a month. I'm still cracking the jars every few days and doing a little smoke test.
Opening the jar, especially one of the two, there is that true blueberry scent. I kept a male in and did seeds, which actually produced a good number of mutant seeds, double seeds etc. After removing any seeds from the buds, the grinder kicks up a whole new level of blueberry terps to my nose. The material is gummy and easy to roll. The smoke tells me that the cure isn't there yet, but after half the joint the smoke starts to really mellow out, there is a taste of the blueberry on inhale, I haven't noticed much on the exhale.

The second plant also had a hint of blueberry but was more like cereal blueberry Mini Wheats.
The stone is strong, and relaxing. I'll definitely be going through these seeds to find something even more amazing when I get the chance.

Ehh, Im sure you do have the Blueberry terps was my point.

Have you even looked up the Blueberry Fruit Profile to determine what terpenes you are actually looking for? They have names and we have the technology to test our cannabis to determine what specific terpenes are present. So tbh, THE Blueberry terp that you are seeking is going to be different from other people's, and if it's the actual terpene smells of Blueberry, well, it's going to be the same across the board, no matter what your anecdotal experience is, as it's documented scientifically when they test the terps.

There's way more terpenes in cannabis than in blueberries, so tbh, I don't think it's really that that difficult to even plan out, assuming you live where they can test your flowers. Just have to have the space to hold clones and be able to grow the bud and send it off for testing...however, you would need to be at about f4 or later to have the specific phenotype show in more than 75% of the phenotypes in a sample population of let's say 10 seeds. That's assuming you didn't accidently kill off the recessive gene for the terp you wanted and/or didn't bottleneck it.

Anyway, good luck

Here is the breakdown from a 1999 study on the volatile compounds of different varieties of blueberry plants, taken at different points of a harvest.

The predominant terpenes included 1,8-cineole and linalool with trace amounts of cymene, limonene, 1-terpineol, trans-caryophyllene (Figs. 2-4) and 3-carene (Figs. 5-7).

That’s seems pretty spot on, my pre98 BB has often been described at “minty” which would come from the Euculyptus/cineole terrine. It still has the strong undertones of blueberry, but the mint really creeps up the nostrils. This terrine profile has been readily showing in F1 crosses.

That old school blueberry isn't undertones of blueberry though- it's smack you in the fucking face blueberry flavor. I never tasted ANY flavor besides blueberry in that bud whatsoever just blueberry. Not even a weed or earthy flavor.

Unless they tested 1 of the non-keepers, which imo is the only thing left from the original - funny how it's been gone for almost 30 years but now suddenly everyone claims they've got it.....I smell a bunch of bullshit. Nobody has that original imo or it wouldn't have taken damn near 30 years for not just 1, but like 100 ppl to claim it.

There was a powerful indica pheno we found in Oregon, straight menthol vicks stuff 10 yrs ago. Pretty much knockout. I really liked it. Grew and dried a slate blue shade. But almost burn your nose.

Nobody has DJ’s original, but you’re ignorant if you think cuts for that lineage don’t exist. I’m not trying to claim I suddenly have it, I received it in 2010 and it was a very tired cut by then, branching had become very weak, similar to other old cuts I have ran. . It’s prodigy has proven not to have that trait which only confirmed my assumption about being an old cut.

The F1’s I made produced several pheno’s similar to the mother. My F2’s are about ready for testing, so I’ll soon have multiple opinions on the blueberry terps. The taste of Blueberry is there on the dry hit for sure.

Yes, the citeole (eucalyptus) terp is strong in my mother, which is also an indica Blueberry. Attached is a keeper pheno from my F1 that’s very similar to mom in size, structure and smell.

It produces very large broad leaves in comparison with the purple F5 pheno’s in my this cross which grow taller, thinner leaves with a different terp profile.

Thanks for clarifying.

Imo the true pre98/99 is extinct - because like you said, old cuts go bad, and for some reason ppl let them go bad instead of making seeds out of them (which I think can rejuvenate genetics/traits)

Glad to see you made seeds, I hope it does rejuvenate the flavor that's missing from today's blueberry.

I hold the pre98 in a special place in my heart, ppl who have only tried post 2000 blueberry don't understand why its such a unique strain.

Potency CAN be among the best, and flavor absolutely IS the best, bar none.

But until someone experiences the flavor, it sounds mythical....I'll never forget telling my boys about it and they didn't believe me until I finally got some and smoked them out, that was 20+ years ago and they STILL ask me if I'm able to get it lol

Don’t sleep in Lemonhoko’s BX4, it has rave reviews amongst those who have grown it out and is a compley different cutting of Blueberry (I’ve seen his mom and mine grown side by side, his is that green Sativa which, like my mother, is a 55 day finisher)

I haven't had his specifically, but I had a sativa blueberry in 2006 that I loved....it had smack you in the face flavor, but wasn't nearly as strong as the indica....it was slightly above average potency....think sativa version of the blueberry muffin strain, but better tasting.....so probably around 20%thc which isn't terrible...gave a really nice high that felt close to a 50/50 hybrid....it was really nice...I've debated lemonhoko but I'd be pissed if I dropped 200 on a pack and wasn't satisfied, so idk maybe I'll get it eventually

Lem uses the pre-98 blueberry sativa. Kaya of pnwroots also done some work with the same cut.
