Brown stuff on cutting from DWC cloner

I get brown stuff almost looks like a wet dirt kind of on my cuttings when I put them in my DWC 1.5 gallon cloner. This is a pic of the cutting and now I'm thinking its the dirt from the air stone that is in the cloner to circulate the water. What do you think?

This substance makes it harder and longer for my cuttings to root.

Throw a pinch of pool shock in there and it should clear up

are the cuttings dying? if they are look up pythium.
if they are not I would guess iron F3 . ferric iron .

I use Southern Ag's Bio Friendly Fungicide in my cloner and that seems to have helped me prevent these type of issues. And I can say I'm far from keeping things super clean/sterile. I do let my stones and cloner sit in super hot tap water when I "clean" between cycles but I've yet to really use anything even as harsh as bleach. So far, I get very good success rates when given adequate time - with very low (if any to be honest) failures.

Mine is a TurboKlone so not DWC necessarily, but all the same I'd suspect the SouthernAg BFF or an equivalent may help?

Yes you have Pythium or as its commonly know as Root Rot. They only way I know to fight root rot is with a beneficial bacterial tea. Below is a thread that deals with Pythium. Peace and happy reading :hump:
