Butter without decarbing weed first?

What happens if you make butter without decarbing the weed first?

(I want to make butter than I would just eat raw, without putting it into brownies or anything).

Confused cause some people say I have to decarb it first by putting it in oven for 30 minutes at 250F, then simmer it for 2-4 hrs on low heat in butter.

Some people say decarbing is not necessary.

Decarbing is needed if you want to get high. Simmering in butter would not be very efficient. It's best to decarb buds by themselves then infuse in butter.

Don't listen to some people!!!

I use coconut oil instead of butter and decarb in the oil. The same can be done with butter once all water is removed.

A good thermometer is handy. I use my infrared laser one after running a batch with a lab thermometer and seeing that it gave me the same readings. $20 at Canadian Tire on sale a couple years ago.

If you decarb pot in the oven on a cookie sheet or anything unsealed that stank coming off it are your terpenes and esters. Very low boiling point compounds that you lose. Decarbing in the oil keeps most of them in there. Has very little odour when I cook a batch right beside my chair in the mancave.

I do mine on a hotplate in a cooking pot with a piece of wire screen on the element. Once all the water is gone just raise the temp slowly toward 250F. Around 235 you should be able to see very fine bubbles on the surface. These are the CO2 molecules breaking off the THC/CBD molecules and floating to the surface. Depending on how fresh the pot is and how warm it got during the infusion process there may not be a lot of bubbles as much of the pot is already decarbed. Just watch the temp and try not to go too much over 250. Take it off the element for a bit in needed. Stir once in a while to loosen any bubbles and once you can't see any more bubbles you're done. I let it cool to around 212 then add about 5% by volume liquid sunflower lecithin to help with absorption when eaten.

Now you'll get the full effect of the THC and it can still be used for baking.

The link in my sig has a lot more detail.

I always get lazy and just eat the oil. This is the best method imo.

I'm always lazy so don't have to get there. :D

I just eat my RSO too but have friends I supply for free and they aren't as good at dosing so something like a gummy or capsule with a consistent dosage is better for them. My neighbour with serious nerve pain in his lower legs after treatment for thyroid cancer was getting RSO from a nephew out on the west coast but he's no longer supplying him so I've given him 2 - 10cc syringes of RSO so far. My buddy the next town over has 4th stage prostate cancer and I've given him about 40cc so far. He's doing not bad but also getting pharma meds from the same urologist I see for my prostate issues. I started taking my RSO about 4 months before my 3rd MRI scan last August and my prostate had shrunk from 75cc down to 55cc with an almost 2 point reduction in my PSA test so the urologist was amazed. He said he's never seen that kind of reduction without the kind of nasty meds he gives patients like me. My wife's liver tumours also shrunk after taking it for months and her glaucoma test is back in normal range so this shit works.

I'm going to be mixing up a batch with CBD in it to see if that helps lower my PSA number before my next blood test as it has crept up again tho no increase in other symptoms. Trying to avoid the biopsy my doc keeps hinting I should get but at my age, 67, I'm almost certain it will show I have cancer but as over 95% of prostate cancers never kill you I'm saying no to that for now. Poking needles in there for samples can just release the cancer so fug that!

Awesome. Next time I make coconut oil concentrate, I'm trying this. This is my bookmark, so I can come back and find the info when I'm ready, :bigjoint:.

Thanks man.

I've done it both ways and both seem to work so I don't know really what to say. You can do it to be safe I guess? I find my strongest edibles are always the ones I make with all my trim in addition added to oil/butter.
Here's a fun fact I haven't seen suggested yet; I read somewhere that olive oil works better than a lot of other fats because it's a long chain fat, molecularly speaking, and thus your body has to break it down more than a short chain fat, which allows your liver to absorb it better. I've tried it and it does work, but it always seems to work so who's to say haha.
Good luck in your edibles journey.

Mine goes in a mason jar with butter or oil. 2 or 3 hours in a pot of boiling water, it is decarbed and quite strong.
I used to decarb like that years ago, and I got inconsistent results. Oil or butter insulates the cannabis oil and decarbing doesn't work as efficiently. It's the same reason you can bake brownies at 350F without ruining the cannabinoids. Sometime use your jar of herb in the oven to decarb without oil and compare.

Here is a link with test results. Of course they recommend their decarb machine but test results are not hype, or myth.

When I make butter I use a mini crock pot. I put in 4 sticks and let it melt and then skim the solids off the top. Then fill with trim or buds so that the butter is over the top a little ways. I usually add about a half inch of water at this point so create a heat barrier on the bottom so nothing burns. Then let it simmer on medium for 6-8 hours. It has always kicked everyone's ass that tried it.

These days I actually prefer to use concentrates to make edibles. I'll do an alcohol extraction or get some bho from a friend and infuse it into the oil/butter in my crockpot. I usually only let that cook a couple hours though. Seems to work great and doesn't have the intense plant "flavor".

Tested in rice cooker still worked.maybe you would get more high if you decarbed no idea.
