herr beenthere supports giving gays all the same rights as any other couple, which presumably extends to the tax code, inability to compel someone to testify against their partner, etc.

what we are trying to find out is why herr beenthere is OK with granting equal rights, but insisting that it be a different title. and he is too chickenshit to give a straight answer.

He could be or not be. That's his call.

my dad says gays shouldn't be married because it destroys the language. Then he proceeds to show me his dictionary from 1908 that says marriage is between a man and woman. Then something about jews lol

See, that's MY issue. There should be no "rights" for a "married" couple beyond those that are extended to a single person imo.

nothing against you personally, but i find that view to be an incredibly stupid and futile hill to try and take.

but suppose i were to share your fairly unachievable goal of getting government out of marriage. would you share my view that until we get the government out of marriage, states should hand out marriage licenses equally, as dictated by the 14th amendment?

SAT's i don't give a lot of credence to. (1380 combined in '91)

Same goes for IQ test (161 and 163 circa '95 and '96)

All these tests do is somewhat establish the POTENTIAL to learn. What one does with that is their own choice.

i'm not intolerant of your belief/opinion, i just want to know how you justify it. but you keep deflecting.

so once again: whydo you insist that gays can have all the same rights and protections, but are not allowed to call it marriage?

edit: i may think your opinion/belief is stupid and bigoted, but i am not intolerant of it. just offended by it.
