Welcome to the board Ez,

I run a soiless (manual hydro) system for my plants, and it works well for my needs. I get many of the benefits of hydro (faster growth, greater control, etc) with no investment in hardware. I simply plant in Promix/Perelite at a 3/1 ratio, and water water with hydro nutes. The Promix I use is more forgiving than most hydro media with Ph fluctuation, so much so that I use ph paper rather than an electronic meter. I may go for a flood and drain system eventually, but am perfectly happy where I am now.

Certain hydro setups need a constant flow. Hydro growing is just the lack of a soil or dirt medium, doesn't mean you need automation or pumps, like NFT. Other ones like Ebb n Flow are watered more the way one would water normal plants in soil. Wick doesn't even need pumps, but typically it is more difficult to water properly with a wick setup.

That's exactly what I'm saying. You can get many of the benefits of hydro without the gear. You may want to automate in the future, but I would recommend trying it out manually first, to get a feel for it. A lot of folks on this site use Coco-- run a search for that in the title.
