Transplanting is really easy. Its best if you've watered the medium a day before the transplant so the soil stays together. If I don't let the plant go too long, all I usually have to do is gently squeeze the sides of the cup in a few places, place my hand over the cup top with the plant between my middle and ring finger, and turn the cup over and gently shake. Most of the time the plant will come right out. Sometimes I have to squeeze the cup a few more times if it does not come out the first try. I've yet to have an instance of transplant shock.
Thanks man. I have a few Subcool Vortex seeds left and I'm going to do the solo cup on them starting now! I'll keep you posted.

Yes, I cover it back over. I've never bothered with positioning the seed with the tap root down, it knows how to grow :). I don't bother with lights until the seedling sprouts, and then I either stick it in a back corner of my veg room or put a 23w CFL over it about 3-4 inches away. I don't put too much light on the seedling for the first day or so, and even then I take it slow with lighting, putting the seedling farther away from my lights than I would a much more mature plant. You just have to figure out what the little seedling can handle without stretching. For me its 3-4" from the 23w CFL or 12" or so from my 150w CMH.
thanks again brother for your advice. i have a 5000k 150 watt cfl, a 250 watt HPS (and two 400 watt MH/HPS lights.) i was thinking i'd start all the seedlings under the 150 watt cfl.

I'd recommend at least 5-6" from that bulb for your new seedlings. People will tell you that you can put CFLs closer, and you can when they get a few days on them at least, but I've learned the hard way that higher wattage fluorescents can burn the little ones.

24 hours or 18/6? I've always done 18/6 just because i thought a plant needs a dark cycle and it gives the lights and power a break. What do you think?

Its a matter of preference if you ask me. I've played around with 18/6, 20/4, and 24/0, didn't really see any advantages of one over the other. Except on the power bill!

All the seeds sunk overnight. I just planted them all roughly 1/4" deep in the well moistened seedling mix. I have an RO system so I'll use filtered water for the rest of the grow. I'll place them on the seedling heat mat tonight and put the 150 watt CFL over them.

So far so good!

Might want to raise the plastic bags up a little, just to give sprouting space. I typically fill mine farther up so the baggie gets raised almost as high as I can put it.

put the babies on the heat mat under the light. 150 watt 5000k CFL. got the timer set for 18/6. i don't think the light is too close, at least i hope not.

One of the Royal Flush just came out. Both Vortex are way ahead of the others. (Maybe it's the solo cups! :eyesmoke:) They look a little stretchy but it seems to me the last time I grew them they did the same thing. I have space in the cups to bury the stems if need be. I thought the rest of the seeds would be up by now but I'm probably just being impatient.

the babies are still coming up. no white widow so far! my dna sour cream totally flipped herself over and the taproot was sticking up so i had to do emergency surgery and turn her over and bury the root. no time for pictures of the operation!

my new tent has a handy side window, good for taking pictures. i added a couple small 6500K and one 2700K light as you can see. i suppose i'm getting carried away! bongsmilie
