Hey everyone, I'm gonna buy soil tommorow or Wed for the rest of my transplants and I need some opinions.

One of the two that I already transplanted is starting to show minor nute burns (just some of the tips turning brown) so I'm starting to think that FFOF might be too hot with the bigger & more effective root systems.

I'm thinking of getting FF Green Frog, or Leaping Frog, or what ever it's called. I was told that the only difference is the Frog doesn't have the fish emulsion so it will have less N. I'm not really sure if the N is what's burning them, but it's kind of a process of elimination finding out which nute is the culprit. And I have a liquid fish emulsion fert to use if they start asking for more N.

Has anyone used the FF Frog & what are your opinions? (and is the pH right?)

+rep for help as always.

Yeah, I know about Light Warrior, I looked for some when I bought dirt for clones. Couln't find any though.

But I want to try the medium strength first. If it's still too hot I'll try the Light Warrior on my next grow.

I'm kind of mapping out new territory here. I haven't been able to find anyone that uses this kind of Mycorrhiza to answer questions, so I have to learn by trial & error.

So Happy Frog has the right pH and is a decent soil?

Yes, I also mix it with FFOF for my flowering

Cannamart, the ones that went to court, sell clones for $25. They have good quality and variety according to their last email. The few clones I bought from them took off. The moved to Arapahoe and Broadway now.

I wanna note here that clones and seedlings are not the same thing. Clones (once well rooted) are fully mature plants, just small. Not seedlings. Well rooted clones can take a "full strength" feed right away. I've dropped lots of rooted clones right into 2.0EC nute solution with no problems at all.

Good call on the Happy Frog. There are cheaper commercial soils that work just fine but FF makes good dirt and of their line frog is my favorite.

Thanks for the help +rep

But FFOF burned every clone I tried to start in it, and when I asked the hoticulturist at the nursery she told me it was too hot for clones or seedlings.

They didn't have the light warrior so she suggested Forti-Lome (I think that's how it's spelled). Also good soil, but it holds water a little too well. Even with 33% perlite added.

The FFOF is only burning the moms becuase the roots are absorbing more of everything. A little too much for the FFOF. Hope Happy Frog is answer, but if not I'm sure the Light Warrior will be.

As long as you don't treat your roots, most or all adults should do fine with FFOF. I'm only having problems because I'm treating the roots which is giving my girls bigger roots that absorb everything faster.

On clones & seedlings, I guess it depends a lot on the strain. All, or almost all of my clones got burned by it. The OG Blueberry took it especially hard & is still the runt of the group. And the Purple Passion got burned so badly, she stopped growing all together for about a month. She's just starting to grow again now, about 10 days after transferring her to the Forti-Lome.

One of my bigger clones (6" or 7") is starting to get yellow leaves at the bottom though in the Forti-Lome. I'm guessing a N deficiency. I might try giving her a drop of fish emulsion fert the next time I water.

FFOF is a little hot for some strains. Most will be fine, especially if not sativa dominant. Sunshine mix is good too. MG Organic works fine too guys and its a lot cheaper.

Personally, i much prefer the dependability of a balanced synthetic fert and either soiless or hydro. Keep all you beneficial bacteria and fungal spores for breaking down carbon based foods. If your salts are immediately available none of that matters. Ah chemicals....

I've used both ocean forest and happy frog, and I prefer happy frog! though I'm only on my 3rd grow right now so just my 2 cents.
Thanks for your help +rep

But I want to stick with FF. They add micro organisms that I think are different from the ones that I'm adding and help with the root development and nute absorption.

Your micro organisms help speed the break down the organic compounds to raw salts, making them more available, which in turn helps with absorption, which in turn helps with development. Still just a means to an end.

Not sure what the ones in the FF do, but the ones from the MYKEs also helps with colonization which creates larger roots in the same square inch/foot of soil.

They help the roots grow bigger and absorb more of everything, including water. And in return the roots gives them food (sucrose & such) so they can multiply. That's the way I understand it anyway.

There are also some micro organisms that will actually attract & trap spring tails to get the nitrogen from them as they decompose. Not sure which type of micro organism that is though. I'm still learning.

I've heard good things about Chemdawg & Trainwreck. Never tried any though. I may get some when I switch over to seeds.

I feel you on the slow work, but my plants are keeping me way busy. This can be a full time job if you let it. :bigjoint:
