Today's tip,PH testing.
PH testing is a must for good growth. Many plant health problems stem from high PH.Today's tip will show you how to test, and what you need.Bear in mind, this kit will test soil and hydro.I am growing in soil,so I try to keep my PH at 6.5.Hydro growers, your numbers will be much lower,Like 5.5....Maybe one of our experienced hydro growers will chip in.

This is one way of doing it,and it is the method I use...This kit cost me 12.00,at the hydro shop.

fill the vial half full, add four drops of test indicator(the small bottle),cap it,and shake

My water from the tap checks at just over 7....a little high...but,when I add my nutes,it is dead on 6.5.
If your PH is off,the large bottles contain ph up,and ph down, used to adjust it accordingly...use small amounts, and retest after.I have had this test kit since april...It will carry you through a lot of grows.

Yes,the directions say 3 or 4 for a half tube...I tried it both ways and the color stays the same shade.I use 4 just to get a good color...

since water is the topic for the day...

you are better off under watering your plants rather than over watering them.

over watering will kill off your roots because they wont get oxygen and they will drown like all critters.

under watering will hurt the plants after several days but before that it will force the roots to expand and grow to try and find water. this will also make the roots grow through the whole pot rather than just clumping at the bottom and becoming root bound.

to have a big healthy plant above the medium, you must have a big healthy root ball under your medium.

after you harvest your plants always take a close look at your root ball and it will show you how well you are doing things.

a healthy root ball is full of nice white roots that are strong and grown fairly evenly through the medium. this means the roots should even be at the very top of the pot.

if you have a big knot of roots only at the bottom of the pot you are watering too often.

in my grow, my plants get about half a gallon every 2-3 days and i grow small plants in small 8" pots.

i put all my plant matter (cept the root balls) into the hash jar... after i extract every last bit of good stuff out of it the dregs join the root ball in my compost bin which gets used in my yard.
