Some do and some don't, guess it depends on what works best for the individual.
I don't soak normally but i think i would with older seed stock.

I agree.
for a long while I was soaking seeds for 24 hours.
worked great to begin with.
then started getting worse and worse.
out of 9 Blood diamond OG seeds I managed to pop 1.
It was pointed out to me that it could be that I was soaking too long.
Now if I soak first it’s only for a few hours like you.
Im just over thinking it because it’s the most I’ve ever spent on seeds.
They always have in the past, but I have used cuttings for a while now.
First time with regular seeds too. Not looking forward to sexing the plants.
Think I will take cuttings and put them on 12/12 to see which plants are female. Then hopefully find a keeper or 2 from the seed grown plants.

I just use damp paper towels. And I know, they will germinate in the soil if they are good anyway. I would just rather see the tap root barely coming out of the shell before putting it in the soil. That way, I am not waiting on any duds... New or old, bad seeds happen and there are only so many spots for pots in the seedling chamber.

I still use the trusty VHS box with wet kitchen paper top and bottom and leave it somewhere warm.

I went through the same situation about a year ago. I ran a bunch of feminized seeds, took mothers, ran their clones for a few years. Then I wanted a change so I went back buying packs. I unknowingly ran some freebie regs and caught the males early, so it relieved the worries that held me back from buying regular seeds. Now I mostly run regs because I'm pheno hunting. One of my concerns was empty canopy after removing the males, but they show their sex early enough to allow the females to fill in the open space during stretch. I just caught my first ever hermie yesterday.
I’m looking for a couple of mothers from seed rather than cutting, so I’m not worried about having a full canopy this time round.
I’m going to feed them lightly and try and keep them as small as possible. As soon as I know the sex of the plants. I’ll move any keepers out of the tent, take cuttings as put them straight on 12/12.
Im really hoping I find something nice in this pack (show boat).
Wanted jungle boys but not in stock anywhere. My thinking was they pheno hunt for you so it’s kind of worth the price.
It’s not a simple task finding the best phenos I can tell you, it's a whole load of work over the duration of the crop + drying and testing time, in short it's a cunt of task, best of luck with finding something you like.
Monster clones are excellent for that particular application imo, from taking the clone and getting it back to regular veg gives you plenty of time to grow and test the mothers, the m/clones only require a fraction of the work of regular clones, they stay compact and grow slowly until you're ready to clone or flower them.
