That's the ticket right there. Even some "good" premix soils are too low of a PH for my usage, without adding amendment to further the buffering. I've had some FF soils, tested with a bluelab soil probe, measure 5.3 out of the bag. Most of the time its above 6, but it can readily drop, too low, too fast, if not cared for properly...…easy to knock that outta whack.if it’s good
If you get running in that bizzare nowhere land, in between a living soil, and "needing" to feed mixed nutrients, the actual PH of the media is difficult to maintain from my experience....
When using the powdered GH PH up, I found the EC would increase a bit, sorta factor that in while mixing... I always considered that part of my total EC....dunno if that's "right" but it keeps the ladies from freakin' out...
