Great so far everyone. Keep 'em Coming.

In regards to MH vs. HPS this will be used for Veg only. I've always been under the impression that MH was better and helps keep the nodes tighter. But if this isn't true. Really the main concern is heat and then electricity. This is my hobby and I love plus I understand thatnd that it costs money to run lights. Just looking for the best bang for my buck I suppose. Especially since I am anticipating our rates going up even more once summer really starts.

When I moved a year ago from Florida it was .105 per kWh and when I got herein HI it was .45 per kWh. I am forced to utilize the outdoors for this very reason. And the thing is they keep raising it every year from what I hear. On the plus side tho, solar is pretty big here. In fact, our house almost caught fire because of a faulty service box...and the electric
Co had to cap half of the meter until I could get it replaced leaving me with only a few outlets with 110v and absolutely no 220v. I have a solar water that recirculates water from the tank up thru a panel on the roof and only uses a small 110v pump to do this...glad it happened because I haven't had to turn the water heater itself on in over 9 months and the water is always scalding hot when I get home from work. Solar panels with a grid tie in is next so the max electric bill after that will be a standard $20 a month customer charge...then I will consider artificial lighting

We have smart meters now from the electric Co. You can see what you use for juice every hr. of the day by going online. If you could do this it would help narrow down whats sucking the most juice. My guess is the AC...
So can the police.

Yeah but they would require a search warrant/court order before they can request info from power company.

Anyway paying 25c a kw plus a $1 a day service charge...............
Running 2x430w hps
And about to add 440w of t5 for veg tent
Still want one more 430hps for flower tent, and another 220w t5 for breeding tent.
The 2 430 hps added about $400 per quater to my bill.

So I have:
-600 watt cool tube
-4" 135 CFM Centrifugal
-2x 250 Watt Big Boy CFL
-Pumps, Timers, etc
-A/C wired for 220 and only gets used on hot days.

Edison just raised our rates to $0.32/ kwh and I am paying $290 this month. I realize that this is probably a really low number considering it is a small grow. So to help myself feel better I want know what some of you guys paying and what you have running for your systems.

Here is a little graph I made when my rates were lower:

I have to say, i fucking hate when people say this.. wtf would a eletric company care? Give me proof.. i know people get busted everyday for stealing power. But never ever heard anyone getting snitched on by the eletric company.. i just dont see that.. i have friends that work for the power companies and they don't give a shit, most of the employees are stealing eletric themselves.

Now let me note your in Florida and the cops fucking HATE growers there. Im dont quite understand what the deal is with miami-dade police but they are as corrupt as they come.. ive watched tons of bust and it always seems 80% come out of Florida.

In Miami-Dade, they handcuff you and toss you in the canal. "Accidental" drowning. They've busted several people in my town after the city-owned power company reported "unusual" power consumption. They give a reward to the employees for information leading to an arrest.

In the UK for 23kwh of total usage per day, which includes my everyday electric I'm paying around £112 per month.

I run a 400w setup with 6" exhaust fan.

What's that about in USD about $180?? Or somewhere there abouts. In the uk we don't use home AC's as they are just too damn expensive and we don't really get the weather to need them.

2x5"
2x16" fans

So how come its so much cheaper for you?

And I'm not getting that hammered if it should be £97 for all your stuff per month.

When I got serious about growing in '05 and '06 I didn't really understand about ballasts and strong bulbs. So I ended up with a half-dozen different set-ups. I had MH and HPS ballasts and bulbs in 400W and 1000W. Here is what my years of experimenting has shown me --
* MH bulbs run hotter at 400W and 1000W. I moved plants closer and farter from the bulbs to watch them. MH bulbs burnt plants at 12 inches. HPS mostly didn't.
* Seedlings and clones grow bushier during veg with MH. S'lings @ HPS tend to stretch and fall over. (Because of the heat factor I still veg with a 400W HPS.)
* Plants do seem to thrive when they are exposed to both bulb types in their lifetime. Argues for the traditional MH for vegging and HPS for flowering mantra.
Good luck, BigSteve.

From what I gather there isn't any such thing.

I'm UK so don't quote me but itsnt it still illegal federally in the USofA?
J
yes you're correct about feds, but that's more of an argument that prohibitionists here use. like when a city council wants to justify banning 'legal' grows within a certain area or regulate somehow. feds have lost ground in the u.s. with this topic, especially in legal-med-states and know they're standing on quick-sand. in my mind, state law preceds federal.

You have to be HUGE in u.s. med state to get the boogeyman (the feds) to show up. move to a 'med state' and learn to lose "the-fear".
