Feminized seed question. What are the negitives?

Obviously the pros are getting seeds that will all be female. Pretty good pro. But what are the cons? I read here and there people bashing feminized seeds and never really seen a list of what the cons are. I am talking about the colloidal silver method particularly. I understand you don't want natural hermaphrodites in your crop. The silver does not change the genetics as far as I know. But I don't know everything...

I made a batch of silver and just when I thought it wasn't working, my girls dropped nutts. I plan to only make enough seeds to keep as a back up in case I lose my crop and maybe for trade. I am curious though to know what if anything bad could happen down the road.

There are no negatives..
you're exactly right, a chemical like c.s. does not change the dna of the plant, forces the plant to grow male flowers, stamen.. if it wasn't for the chemical, the plant never would have grown balls..

It is said that once you put silver on the plant, you can't smoke it. Ok, I don't want shit in my weed, one reason I'm a grower. My question is, does the silver toxify the plant, or just the area on which it is applied? Why not just
"pollinate" a branch with silver, let some balls form and then keep the rest of the buds for smoking?

I avoided using fem seeds for a long time...unless I want to run some crosses, or make some seeds...fems all the way now.
I am a convert to the simplicity of fem seeds.:clap:

edit: Had to mention that some of my preferred breeders do not provide fem versions of their strains, in that case, I embrace reg seeds.

But if I have a choice, its fems

people use, as in drink, collodial silver all the time for supposed health benefits.. would i drink it, probably not, but not because i'm afraid of it's toxicity, but rather because i am not all that health conscious and wouldn't drink it looking for health benefits, so why bother drinking it imvho..

I am laughing because I remember you posting the same video in yet another CS/seeding thread to calm fears of getting poisoned by CS. Must get old lol.

There should be a sticky on the subject of creating seeds/CS/tiresias mist etc.

I drank boatloads of CS when I had Lyme disease...I used it in conjunction with antibiotics.
I recovered and luckily suffered no long term symptoms.
That was over 10 years ago.

From the research I have done I believe the only part effected is where it is sprayed. So you could spray a lower branch and be sure no overspray hits anything else and the rest of the plant will flower as normal. You could use that lower brance to pollinate the same plant it is growing on. As for smoking I am pretty sure the only toxic part is the part sprayed.

I chose to put clones into solo cups, let them veg a short while and then spray the whole thing. Not expecting a huge plant nor have space for them. I built a small separate box to flower them in with a single CFL. That way none of my main crop is anywhere near it. One good male flower from each strain should be enough to pollinate a bud or three later on.

They sell it in health food stores for use by oral consumption. All this is toxifies the weed is just a bunch of bs.

That's the way a lot of people do Prodigal, unless they're trying to harvest a bunch of pollen for storage.

CS is used as medicine by drinking it. It was used as an antibiotic like 50 years ago. I could be wrong but smoking silver particles might effect you differently than drinking CS. I would rather not smoke it if I had a choice.

I agree. I guess I should have mentioned that. Unless you want to harvest a ton of seeds I would not recommend it. Selective pollination is the way to go. I just wanted to clarify that spraying a single bud site wont spread the silver to other flowers. You could have a single bud be male, rest female.

RB, don't forget about the Hermaphrodite. I have plants that have Herm'd on me because of genetics, not stress, and a few seeds popped out of my buds when all was said and done. I then grew these same seeds, and what amazed me, I just finished a Lady who did not Herm on me even though I used the seed from the Herm'd plant. And, all seeds are Female.

CS is not harmful to ingest; I use it for health benefits and have done so for years.

It is the method of ingestion that can cause issues. There's a chemical reaction that happens when it is heated (burnt) that is harmful.

It does only affect the localized portion of the plant, but still, I would just use specific plants, keep them separate, collect the pollen then trash it just in case.

Seems the intelligent thing to do then, would be to simply take a cutting, root, treat with silver, and harvest the seeds from that one.

:idea: So that's where the "blue" weed strains come from... Blue Hash, Blue Dream, etc... Papa Smurf grows blue weeds from silver.
