First - CFL Scrog Micro Grow

I've been a bit of a lurker on the forum and I think its time to grow. I will be attempting a CFL Scrog Micro Grow. It may be a bit ambitious but it works for my situation right now and hey, that is what the forum is for. I have been constructing the box out of a little crate the people who lived here before me left. The grow will be in soil. I will be submitting some pics in a few minutes once the camera has charged. It should be fun to watch over the next few months. Any initial ideas? I am still building.:leaf:

These are the pics from the box I have started to build. The inside dimensions are 15.5" Wide X 12.5" Deep X 22.5" Tall. There is reflective aluminum riveted to the top. The plan is for the light to have 4 - 42w CFL bulbs with approx 10,000 Lumen covering the area. And before someone gets all cranky-pants ;-), I will be able to keep them within 2" of the plant.

I have had my eye on a couple of 200 CFM squirrel cage blowers out of some high powered Nu-Tone bath fans for a few weeks now. I have the hook up on em'. :bigjoint: Should I get 1 or 2?

in my opinion you can cut costs down alot by just using 2-3 prpoerly placed Thermaltake PC fans...i think they push 80 cfm and are awfully quiet for the amount of air they push.... 9.99 each at radioshack and hook them up to one DC converter where you can adjust the voltage from 3v to 12v also radioshack i think 14.99 or somthing like that. so if one isnt enough put them together back to back and that should do it. that box doesnt look like it would be to difficult to vent but it is cruicial that it is done properly. i personally have 2 of them fans with 2x62w cfl and 2x42w cfl in a 35inHx 35inWx 12inD. so yeahhh... hope that helps.

I was looking at those fans and I like them. I am going to have a small carbon filter and I was worried about the actual air flow with that restriction. My costs so far are nothing and the 200 cfm fan is only going to cost meabout $.50 , that's right, fiddy cent. I was planning on running one high and one low. Is there a better set up for a small box or does it even make a difference with that small of a space?

Alright, update time. I have made some changes to the box. I was unable to get the lights to balance the way I would like on the chains. So as far as the lights go, they are now fixed near the top. The chains may now be used to bring the plants up. I also might just use Legos. It is so fucking bright. 8 of the little fellas sprouted and have found a new home in the soil. Next change is the ScrOG. Its out. We are rollin' SOG. Enjoy. Let me know what you think or if you have any ideas.

Thanks smurf. I fucking love those movies.
So here is the latest. The little bastards have come forth. Beautiful. I hatched 9 to be exact.:weed: The other pics are the blower set up I am building. I have set up a timer and they are rolling 12/12.

Youre never going to be able to fit 8 plants in there grown from seed. its just not gonna happen. If you were using clones, sure- you'd have a great SOG setup. SOG from seed is very impractical. I'd grow one mother plant and take cuttings from her and flower the cuttings. Even if you go 12/12 from seed, the seedlings still have to veg, and in doing so, they will easily outgrow your space. Since clones can be flowered immediately, they can be kept much smaller while flowering.

You may want to re- plant those seeds or you might get some stretching problems.

The part you see right below the set of embryonic leaves is actually part of the tap root. Once the first set of leaves show then you will see the true stem. In a couple of weeks you will see what I am talking about. I mention this because when I have allowed my plants to grow with the exposed tap root, they sometimes have a problem supporting the weight of the plant.

I usually bury my plants right up to the first set of leaves. Just a thought :)

Nice little box though!!!

I have seen it done with some PC tower grows. I figure if I get lucky I will get 3 or 4 females. That will be easy to fit and if they don't fit I have a trash can. Worst case I will throw all but the best one outside and ScrOG it. Things are never as permanent as they appear. Thanks for the input, everything gets me thinking on how to improve.

Yo DownOnWax, Thanks for the tip. I guess I went a little too easy on em' when planting the seeds. How much further should I sink em. Till I don't see white any more? Thanks.

Wow very nice setup. If i were you i'd find some 120W bulbs at the hardware store. I was thinking of doing this type of box to flower fresh clones
like Senor said /\ /\ /\
can u possible detail how you amde this box? i very interested in where you found a good lock and how your venting without light leaks.
+rep for the help. Also, wondering if you know what type of yeild this box would get with seeds or clones. For clones i was thinking 1/4-1/2 oz. seeds maybe more?

I am going to do a big post when I finish the box tomorrow. It will have details and all sorts of fun.
As for the yield... Wow. I have no idea. I will be super stoked if I get a fat joint out of it. lol We should get a pool going. Post your prediction. lol

well if you have 4 plants, i'd guestimate around 3oz. maybe less. i just took cuttings so i'm looking for stealth flower options. Are you in stealth mode now? a closet can go a lot farther.

all nine could work i plant on creating a 3 foot tall 2 foot wide 22 inch deep box with a 150w hps and a scrog screen

flower at 5 inches so they end up being 15+inches tall put a scrog screen at 10 get a small fan on the pots and stems for circulating air and cut all leaves off below screen when YOU START FLOWERING i would fimm when the just eneter the screen(cut new leaf set into 4 new stems instead of 1 new leaf) they will have tons of room may get crowded at the end but i think you have the time to manicure them it will work just make sure they dont branch out until flowering and scrog screen is induced..........................

hope this is a good idea i love mini cabs and tey capablities my specailty

I would like to start off by saying that I was not able to get near as much done today as I had anticipated. I also had a problem / blessing this morning, depending on who you ask.
We shall begin with the tragedy. I am sure that you can noticed the box ventilation had not been hooded up in my pictures yesterday. Well, the box got closed this morning...((cough - WIFE - cough))...and a few of the little guys got a little too warm and fell over. It doesn't look good for them. I took DownOnWax's advice and replanted the little guys up to their balls...I mean leaves. I am hoping that the ones that pooped out on me will magically heal. I cannot believe how long the roots got in just 2 days. Very cool stuff.
The ventilation that will have my smell control is now complete...minus the smell control part, but more on that later. I just need to add my intake lines and we will be ready to stealth.

...also. I have gotten my hands on a 150w HPS. I know that the more light the better but what do you think? My CFLs are mounted to the top of the box. I would have to mount it just below the CFLs increasing the distance between the CFLs and the plants. I have never run one and Im also worried about heat. The fans on there now are running at 140cfm. I think I can cool it. Any ideas on distance from the plats on such a small light?
