I'm getting some yellowing of the leaves.

Could it be from heat?
Sometime temps creep up to 90. I have them under 6 CFL's ( 3ea 29 watt and 3ea 14 watt) Im waiting until they are a bigger to put under the 400 watt light. ( have it down to about 80* now.

Also I'm using MG potting soil. IS the yellow coloring from the fertilizer in MG ?

Any ideas would be great help
Thanks
Shag

They are not very big for 3 weeks you need to get some more light under them and that means getting some control over your temps as well maybe start some grow nutes and get them some super thrive to getthere root system going good..by the way MG soil is not your problem ive been usign it since my very first grow as have plenty others with great success...peace

I guess I really didn't want to hear how small they are , but I knew it compared to everybody else's grow. Thanks for honesty.

I did discover 4 days ago that I only had 4 ea 14wt CFL over them. when i was think I had bigger bulbs going

Do you think I should throw the 400 watt MH light to them? I would prefer to stay away from growth nutes .

Do you think the yellowing is a heat issue?

I have 3ea 29 watt & 3 ea 14 watt CFL light in a small starter grow box about 12" by 18" with the lights about 6 inches above them , mylar and a fan . It seem awfully bright for a small area.

You know to be totally honest with you, at this stage i would not put them under a hps of that number for two reasons they are not growing fast as they should be and the other is temps for young sprouts but if you can control the temps and keep it at about 74-78 then yes you can..But for now concentrate on finding the other trouble, because now i see that you have enough cfl power to help them grow there may be something else wrong!! let them dry all the way out before you water again and then give them a good watering with a lil super thrive and 1/4 strenth grow nutes...first what kind of MG are you using?

Using MG Organic Potting mix .10 -.05-.05 . I watered yesterday with PH 6.2 ish water. The soil is looking dry , but can make to tomorrow, maybe next day.
I raised the lights a coupe of inches , and turned the room temp down. It will be no problem getting temps down here. Where I live its gets a wee bit cold. -20 this morning .

o'k thats cool, so we have that angle covered now the next thing bro is to just wait! do you have any air movement blowing over them? and what are your light cycle?24/0 18/6 what are you running? at this point i'd be running 18/6 i dont really care what others say about 24/0 all i know when im in veg my plants get so much more growth with a dark period then they did with the 24/0..

18 /6 , and a small fan blowing across make those stems wiggle. I even throw a bit of CO2 in there for GP's . The yellowing just started after a the last big watering.

I put them in a mylar lined box with CFL's to get them started.

This is Northern Light #2 its my best looking planted 1/31/11

The 23 day old seedlings are still having some troubles, There has been no growth for a week now .

Temperatures are 78 to 80 with lights on and 70 when not on .
I watered yesterday , after 3 days , the soil is looking dry again. I have a good amount of air moving , maybe drying them out . Im using MG potting mix with PH -ed water. and 6 CFL lights as starters
The lower leaves are yellowing, and the general health isn't looking good.

Any input ?

I put it up in the plant problem forum .

I think it is from heat stress. I wonder if I should start over .

I would say ... don't stress ... be patient! your seedlings are also developing roots and yes it's a phase where foliage development is a little slowed. However, you might have too much light, excess of heat, lack of humidity or even overwatering. Good Luck!

Well there has been no growth since the 14th , (I compared pictures) the leaf color has gone from a healthy looking green to a greenish yellow , with plants looking less likely to make it.

I pulled the fan , that was drying them out, and temps dropped to low 70's . The fan was bringing air from the room into the grow box .

I will just have to wait and see. I did drop 3 more seeds into a paper towel for grow #4.

When I started this I really didn't think it was going to be so hard to get some plants to grow.

But thanks to you guys that are giving me the encouragement to continue.

Well just an update. I had been having lots of yellow and they stopped growing for well over a week.

I threw them all under a my 400 w MH. I had fertilized 2 of the plants and they seemed to green up just a little in 2 days. I have good air flow and temps have not exceeded 78 degrees.

I mixed up some Shagster soil , Spanish Moss, Vermiculite, and MG Moisture control
w perlite . Its all they had.

The newest 5 day AK-48 will be passing up the month old slow growers

When I started this thread i was expecting to make a few mistakes, hopefully I'm going to be getting around on this learning curve.

I feel good things coming now. Shag Out.
