Oh no BOYS! I'm dreading the same thing on mine which is just about to sex any day now....yours, Easy's and mine are all around the same age...and all first grows ...hopefully your last 2 come out w/ skirts
Yes, I bacisally have one plant with a 50/50 chance of it being male. I;ll move directly to "womanized" seeds after that.

I guess I could build the scrog out from the flower pot.
You know what, I thought about that later that day haha. Yeah I think if you attach the scrog to the pot you should be good to go man!

sorry to hear about the males. tough loss.
My plants are about the same size as yours but no signs of sex yet ):
and I LST'd just like you have.
Hey, just keep on truckin' man. It took FOREVER for Newie to show judging by my calendar she's been in 12/12 for 20 days and these are the first pistils I'm seeing. I know some people can tell by the calyxes but I'm not one of them apparently haha.

Interested to see how this goes, sorry bout the boys crashing the party, this'll give the girls more room to spread their wings.
Oh you know it man! And their wings are definitely being spread!

Hey man I have my fingers crossed. It's such a bummer getting balls so I hope neither of you have to go through it. Do you have a journal going on I can follow?

Ok guys, it's been a while since the last update but pretty much good news all around: Roz is a girl! So out of 5 I got 3 males and 2 females, I think that's fair.

Speaking of Roz, the first close-up shot is of her and I was wondering if anyone might know what would cause the tips of my leaves to point straight down like that. She didn't always point straight down, not really until I transplanted her. She's still been growing though and I haven't watered her since the transplant with the exception of PH testing her soil today (it's at 6.5) as it's been moist.

I was thinking she may not like that square container in which case I'd transplant her into one of the 3L black pots that Newie is in.

Any thoughts?

Anyhow, on to the next pics. Here's a closeup of Newie who had a hell of a growth spurt tonight with the new Nute mix I fixed up for her.

The next shot is a side view so you can see how there's growth under the canopy but the main fan leaves have gotten too big so they pretty much cover them. So I did what anyone would do and in the next pic you can see how I've LSTed her.

I purchased a big thing of yellow yarn yesterday because I'm liking the way string works for training and I figure the bright yellow will make it more visible to people interested in LST.

The last shot shows the simple string and tape LST job. Works better than the hangers because I don't have to worry about the soil getting loose and messing things up. I may still use hangers for individual branches though, if I don't have anywhere to tie them.

Anyhow, that's where we're at right now! Happy to report on 2 confirmed females.

Hey, here's some pics from today.

First is a group shot as usual.

Second is a solo shot of Newie, you can see all the new growth that occurred where the stem was able to receive light due to the LST. Woot!

Third is Newie, you can see a tiny bit of new growth near the bottom of the stem, the fan leaves are covering about 3-4 other little new spots.

The last shot is a side view so you can see my yarn & tape LST job clearly. There's a spot on Newie where I just have two branches tied together to let more light get to those new spots.

I think I'm going to build a new grow box today, one that's slightly bigger so I can fit more lights.

Good luck on the new build. Hardest part so far for me was building that damn box. growing the plant itself seems easier. maybe because of all the hard work put into the building the best environment. peace

Haha I agree Easy, building the boxes have been the most challenging parts. Just getting the temperature right was tough in the first two boxes but this one was good to go.

Stacked 2 35 gal Rubbermaid tubs on top of eachother. LOVING the new grow box. I'll still keep the last one as a Veg Box once I get my perpetual grow goin.

But man, I could even fit 2 5 gal buckets in here and just scrog the fuck out of them. I might try it one of these days...

But for now I'm thinking 3 or 4 medium sized plants. I've added 7 more 26W CFLs bringing the new total to 312W. I'll take a picture of the new box either tomorrow or Saturday, once I get everything completely sorted out. Temps and ventilation are doing fine though--box kept at 77F in the 30 mins I had left to test it before bedtime for the girls.

Anyhow, I'm excited!

Oh boy, big update coming.

So Roz obviously had shitty draining, I've decided that that's gotta be the cause of the curled leaves on an otherwise healthy looking plant. So I got up with the girls this morning and carefully cut large square drain holes around the bottom sides of her container. That should do the trick, I'm eager to see.

Interesting thing: I was worried that she wouldn't like the square pot but the roots made their way around that thing, I might've ginsu'd a root or two all the way around the bottom edges of the pot--even the end furthest from the plant.

I also gave Roz a little bit of Liquid Karma as it's said to promote growth and it seemed to work so I might give a little bit of that to Newie to see how she likes it.

Anyhow, picture time:

First few pics are of the new setup, 10x26W 2700K CFLs for a total of 260 actual watts. I still have 2 blue bulbs (had 3 but I accidentally broke one--woops!) but I'm gonna save those for the veg box cause I should have a clone coming in really soon. I know I've been saying that for a while but I mean it!

Next few pics are of Newie and Roz inside of the box. Jesus just looking that the pictures hurt my eyes. I really need to start wearing sunglasses when I go in there. Oh and Newie has a few burn marks because the shady ducttape job I did of holding the lights up before failed me and the bulbs were literally resting on top of Newie. Thankfully I felt like checking them early and not much damage was done.

Then some closeups of both the girls. I redid some of the LST ties this morning--it's easily my favorite top-of-the-morning activity. Cup of coffee and some training.

All of the new shoots in the previous pictures are going to be budsites. I tried to get a closeup. The yellow tie towards the right of the pot is where Newies stem starts by the way, so you can track her progress around the pot. She's just about halfway to the finish line!

Roz is working her way there. With this new setup she'll fill up that square box in no time, I'm sure.

Oh before I forget, when I originally set this up, the temps were around 90+ degrees. I went and got some milk crates, stacked them up and the increased airflow lowered the temps in the box about 9 degrees. So if anyone's having temp problems in a small grow, with the books and boxes and shit we use to raise and lower our plants, try to find some that aren't solid so air can pass through them.

Anyhow, I still need a stronger exhaust fan and I need to build a light trap for the second intake as well as the exhaust.

I'll probably do that tonight.

So that's the end of my massive update! Feel free to leave any feedback or criticism.

Small update.

So I found a seed in a bag of Icecream that I had, so I quickly popped that in a cup of water and later into a paper towel. Checked on it this morning and it's starting to crack, should be ready for the dirt tomorrow.

Here are some shots I took after rearranging the LST yarn ties. Had to get more light undeneath because there are some budsites lookin for the sun!

I'm thinking about 5 or 6 more weeks of flowering at the rate we're going, but we'll see.

Thanks Easy!

I'm flushing them right now to see if I can't get rid of that leaf curl. She's pissing me off!

so you think you have some nute burn or wrong pH? I am not sure what causes the curl. They look fine though... as long as you not seeing any significant coloration issues.

Hey guys, long time no update.

So there's good news and terrible news. I just picked up a new camera as a birthday gift to myself so expect better pictures.

That said, this update has a somber tone. The lights fell onto Newie TWO days in a row. Needless to say she got burnt to hell. Now I know what you guys are thinking, "Jeez, h&p is a real asshole. Why doesn't he just screw the powerstrips in so they stop falling on his babies?"

Well I was thinking the same thing so I took care of that today. So the lights should NEVER fall on my babies again.

Sadly, about 50% of Newie was burnt to a crisp. All those new budsites got roasted. On the bright side, there's a bunch of newgrowth happening in the area that was razed so we'll see what pops up there before it's harvest time. I'm super bummed about the whole light thing but hey, you cut corners and you pay the price, right?

@Easy, I flushed them to make sure there were no nute problems. Both of them seemed to appreciate the flushing though. Roz is still curling but she's been healthier than ever. Growing bigass fanleaves, especially when compared to Newie.

So, onto the pictures:

First pic is a group shot as usual.

Second is the Ice Cream I germinated a few days back.

Third and fourth are of Roz.

The last ones ARE NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. They're shots of the damage that occurred during the accident. You can definitely see the newgrowth in the last few pics though, so let's see where this all goes.

Sorry to hear about the light, at least you secured them now lol..

My first grow the leaves where clawing or "curling" pretty bad and it turned out to be a high ph. I eventually go nute lockout and keep the ph where it needed to be.. Just saying, that was my experience..

h&p, love the set up and sorry about the light disaster. Im a complete newb and your posts have helped my out a lot! its been a bit hard for me to find simple small grows like this to model off of. If you dont mind Im gonna pretty much steal your set up with a few different tweaks. Thanks and good luck with everything!
