First time SCROG. WOW!

Hey guys,

This is my first time really making an honest attempt at using a SCOG net. I have to say, I don't know if I'm doing it right but, boy, it looks good to me! What do you think? Also still using Optics low profile (Slim 600h) and honestly despite the bad reviews they have gotten, I'm not disappointed. This is the second grow I have done with this light. I think next time, I'm going to lower the net more and squish the plants a bit more so I can a better spread earlier, instead of slowly training the plants over the course of the weeks.

Anyhow, Looking forward to some constructive feedback and criticism.

Just a bit of additional information, I'm on week 9
Using Future harvest nuts in soil
Seeds are Blue City Diesel from Jordan of the Island

Looks awesome. Will you be adding another net up top for support?
 
Think you kinda missed the window. Usually you do this a few weeks before flip so you can maintain an even canopy

You may need to do another one if that was your goal

Yeah, that was my intention, I did try, the photos are actually mislabeled a bit. I have a week missing that I did take a picture but I cant find it. Probably still on the Camera somewhere. I left them in veg an addition week for a total of 7 weeks (so picture of week7 is when I switched them into flower). When I flipped them to flower I felt like they where close that it probably wouldn't make much of a difference. I was very wrong, The 2 front and the one in the back are growing much quicker then the other 3 as well. Genetics maybe? I will definitely try another SCROG grow after this one.

I was considering that when I building my first net. Nothing is glued for that reason. So in short, Not for this grow, but my next grow will have additional T to accommodate another net for support. This is my trial run with SCROG.

This grow, I will probably use cordage attached to the ceiling for the necessary support.
 
From your last pic, I'm with Bob on this one. A second net will probably be much easier than a bunch of support lines dropped from your ceiling.

Spreading the branches throughout the first layer of the mesh during the VEG cycle can help to lessen that difference in stretch and promote a more even canopy. Was there any spreading of branches laterally or did you just lift the netting into place?

I topped the plants at week 4, and spread the branches over the course of about a week and a half (week 6 and & 7), as the branches hit the canopy. To give you an idea of scale, The top of the net is set at 24" so that I can crawl under and water the back corner :wall:

As far as the second net goes. I absolutely agree, I wasn't sure how SCROG was going to slow down the growth height, I wasn't sure if the second net was going to be necessary. Now I see that it's absolutely necessary.

I'm going to also assume that SCROG method probably works much better with clones? that way you eliminate genetic factors in growth speed?

And just in case someone was wondering I started with 18 seeds, 3 seeds didn't sprout, 1 Sprouted but didn't do much more after that, 7 were males and got axed, which left me with 7 females. I gave one of the females to a friend because I figured the extra female would of been a bit much for the room. The area of coverage is 5'X5'.

About a week away from flush/ harvest. I have to say my only complaint about JOTI seeds/ genetics is I seem to get a lot of genetic variety. More so then other seeds I have grown mostly Mr. Nice seeds.

Yeah, You're probably right. I'm at the point where I check with a 30X scope whenever I water. I would say i'm at 5-10% amber on the trichromes. I'll probably aim to flush once they are 25-30% amber.

Trichomes aren't a very definitive method of determining when to harvest. Your plants still look like they have some bulking up to do and will pack on more resin. Also, flushing isn't needed, that theory has been disproved. Don't want to starve your plants when they are bulking up the most.

I agree on all counts!
I read this post https://www.rollitup.org/t/the-truth-about-flushing.409622/ before my last grown and tried "drowning" (which is what I mean when I say flushing) with my standard curing regime, I got a lot of complements on the result. I was going to try it again with this grow and see if I get similar results.

I guess my only question to you then would be what metrics do you use to tell when your buds are read? I was under the impression that Trichomes was the most accurate way to tell harvest time.
 
I like individual nets. Those get bolted (nylon bolts and nuts) to the netpot lids. Makes moving plants real simple. I also have elbows going up so I can put a vertical and run a horizontal to tie branches to
