First Timer Grow

Ya the filter will work fine for the intake, ducting is not required.. it is good to be able to get fresh air in, and make sure the exhaust air goes out. ducting with a couple of bends does an ok job of diffusing the light. but if you can get fresh air in no problem.

Its funny our situation is reversed, my mother was on all kinds of pills that were not working. now pot has replaced most of them and she is doing better.

The problem with that is there is no money in a plant you can grow yourself. People are greedy... pharmaceuticals are big BIG money. more than oil and they dont want that to stop.

I grew up with drugs and alcohol around me my whole life.. and was lucky enough to learn from others mistakes, marijuana is 100% safe. That cant be said for any other drug I can think of including alcohol. The only week link is what people may do to it to increase profits.. pesticides and what not. another good reason to grow your own you know what is going in and on it.

Well almost the same.. I do smoke it. not much of a drinker, and it makes you think outside the box.

I wish I understood about pot when my mom was dying with cancer 15 years ago! It would have gotten her off liquid morphine. I've always said dont say no until you have walked in someone shoes... I put my son in rehab when 14, 15 17 for smoking (ok he was having fun with all drugs) Now I am providing it for him. It still freaks him out. I went from totally conservative to libral (to a point)

We just went today to visit his old docs and physical therapist where he was an inpatient (for 5 months-for his accident). They agree with what I am doing and I was explaining (as much as I know) the difference in Sativas and Indicas and breeding etc... They were amazed the different combos and how the thc/cbd ratios were. They too now hope it becomes legal. I guess all you need is one circumstance you know of and how it benefits and you change peoples minds.

I told my son, I will try it when our first grow is done... NOW THAT IS BIG :-)

I think everyone should try it, you dont have to smoke it.. the clippings make good butter for baking. but I know some who it just doesnt agree with one or two tokes you will know. I like your open mind about it anyway.

Are you going to clone them, or start from seed next time?

both. Im gonna try to clone aurora. still have some seeds left. also want to find one with high cbd that will help him sleep. Im thinking one kind for daytime pain with uplift so can function and another kind for bedtime... am I over thinking this? If I can get a taller tent (future obviously) I would like to try a sativa dominent indica. I know they grow medium to tall. Im in the "what can I accomplish" stage.

I prefer clones you dont have to find and take out all the males that way and I think you can get a more consistent grow when they all come from the same mom.
A few years back I had some that were mostly sativa in the same room as the mostly indica, the sativa was so much taller that it made me raise the light way up.. and they over shadowed the other. I would say grow them in separate tents if space allows, there are also ways of pruning them to keep them a bit smaller and bushier or bending the main stem down and tying it while it is soft this way only the branches grow up, while the plant grows sideways.

In the end I went back to the indica, I like the way it grows they tend to be more manageable and just nicer to look at.

OK, I guess Aurora 1 is technically 3 weeks old today.

Wile I was at work she seemd to jump almost 2 inches. She was ALMOST touching the light. She seems healthy. Aurora 2 is half her size as she is a week younger. ERica (hopefully not Eric) is getting bigger and stronger as well and she is 1 week behind. Boy, this is getting exciting.

T gave 1/4 strength food on Sat. I believe I am suppose to do that once a week? Here are 2 other pics of my room. I do not have intake filter or carbon filter yet. carbon filter was just ordered and since it has to come from west coast it takes some time. One pic I brought lights up high to show how the

girls are in there. started out with only 3. The other pic is how I have the light on top of. I have it tilted so the smaller plants can be close as well. Pics are from my phone so not high res. :-(

that blue thing is a humidifier. Still only 40%.

OH, and they look wet cause I just gave them a light spritzing with the sprayer

Once they get going they grow quick, keeps it exciting
I still dont have a filter hooked up yet but the smell wont really get bad till the bloom phase, I better get on it before then.

cant wait to see them filling up that tent!

YOUR are SO BIG. I cant believe how big the leaves are. My girls are not that thick! :-(

Im jealous. So you are using Aeroponics right? so I guess that is faster like hydroponics? What kind is she anyway?

Looking good!

You should make sure not to use too much nutrients. I only feed (use nutrients) every third watering, and I slowly raise the strength of nutrients as the plants get older. Watering should be done as necessary, both over and under watering have the potential to cause problems. Let the soil dry out thoroughly, generally until the top 1/2-1 inch are dry, as your girls grow larger they will need to be watered more often.

Also, 40% RH is not bad, especially if you are misting the plants. That level will do great during flowering, although you would not want to mist the plants during the flowering stage of growth.

Once again, you are doing a great job for your first grow. Sub'd

Thanks, So far I only water once a week. Getting hydoton balls in mail soon and heard that will help with top soil dryout. OK.. so I will water for next 2 weeks then give nutes (right short for nutrients? - still learning lingo) so far 1/4 strength.. how do you tell when they need?

The thing about soil is that it can store nutrients and to much water displaces the air in the soil, with aeroponics the water is mixed with nutrients and the air is pumped in like an aquarium.. so you can water "feed" non stop if you want with out the fear of over feeding as long as the solution you mix isnt to strong. I have noticed the stalks are really getting thick more so than any other grow I have done. the thick leaves are a sign of indica I think.. sativa has a thin long leaf indica has wide stubby leaves.

If I had to guess I would say it looks like kush, I remember it was good smoke they came in... but ya they came in my pot a while back

knowing when they need is hard to say, when they get to much the leaves will look a bit burned. I would do what the instructions on the nutrients you have say, treat them like tomato plants. when I was using soil I used to go by the weight of the pot if it was light I'd water if heavy give it a day. testing the top of the soil you should be cautious the water can evaporate from the top and the bottom may still be wet it depends on how your type of soil holds water.

Oh great.. I heard to get for vegetables but there was so many vege directions. that def helps. That is why I ordered the hydroton balls. they say helps top stay moist and allow the roots to use that extra room.

I was looking originally at bubbleponics I thought that was hybred between hydro and aero. I figured since I dont know enough about drooping and brown and etc.... I would have a better chance for success with soil but REALLY wanted bubble :-(

Heard it was faster and bigger. I guess in a few years I'll be experienced enough to do that. Thanks for your help AGAIN... more to come!

Oh, and you are using T5's right? If my memory serves me right... see you prob say your stoned brain by I say my old brain. are you using to bloom too or switching?

Bubbleponics are a bit different kinda like hydro and aero, without the circulation. once the roots hit the water you only need an air pump to keep the oxygen levels up, close to deep water culture. I chose aeroponics because from what I have read the plants love the misters,

and you dont need any soil or rockwool. but there is a risk if the pump dies so do the plants. but once you set the timers you are done, once a week you need to change the water and nutrients, thats it

When I pick a mother plant I have a "WaterFarm" single plant garden that I am going to use for it. Basically a bucket full of water and another with hydroton and an air pump, almost the same Idea as bubbleponics, but have never tried it yet so??

Yup T5's six four footers, not sure if I will use it for flowering I also have a 600w hps that will be on for sure, may use both... not sure

That is a good idea, once you have the nutrients figured out there is almost no work involved. What size is the reservoir on those things? I have thought about putting 3 or 4 clones in one and putting them straight into flowering.

It is about 8L (2 gal), and ya no work other than change the nutrients every week or so.. but I have heard that once the plants get big you have to check the water more.
also people say they do the best once the roots hit the water level, then you just need an air pump to keep the oxygen up.

I believe they have a built in water gauge, so you can easily tell when the reservoir is getting low. If you have a PPM meter then you should only have to top it off, no need to completely change the water every week.

From the photos is looks like they have a drip system on them, so it should suffice for rooted clones. I have some experience with hydro, and I used to just put clones directly into my flood and drain system to root, so I have a lot of faith in the ability of clones to survive.

never to late jillybean, there lots of ready made systems you can buy online.. or if you are crafty and have the time there isnt much to building your own for cheap, about a quarter of the cost.

I change my nutrients every ten or fifteen days, unlike waste to drain the plants take what they want from the nutes and they flow back to the reservoir.. it still makes great plant food for house plants or your garden, but I like to make sure what my plants want is available to them. soil has the ability to hold nutrients like a reserve for when the plants want.
