Global Warming or Over Population - Earths Biggest Threat?

your idea of letting major cities drown is about as popular as your other idea of getting rid of social security and medicare and about as brilliant as that 10 point romney lead you were sleeping on (hint, obama won by 4. so it was 14, not 15. my bad.
I'm pretty good with carving NYC, southern cal and other areas off the map. Can we build a wall to keep the people in before it floods? That's my only question. I might be cool with letting the floridians in.

So, that's really all you got? Major cities drowning? How ever will they escape the crashing tides that will creep in over 50-100 years? Think of all the people that will be overtaken with no chance to outrun a rising sea level screaming in at a few inches a year. OH, THE HUMANITY! So, that's the calamity we have to rush to avoid? Major cities being forced to build sea walls and some 1%'s losing their beach houses? And all the rest of the world gets is an environment where plants and animals thrive?

Still waiting for for the big, scary reason we HAVE to adopt the hair-brained measures coming from the Eco-loons. Throw me a rope, I'm drowning here. There has to be some dire prediction on par with fiery dragons rising into power or people melting from the extra two degrees, that you can give to justify the fervor. Anyone? Or did we really not think this through?

I know right??

People like to build houses on cliffs. How do you think the cliff got there?

Erosion does not stop at a rich persons property line... LOL!!!

I was watching all this Cold weather news and got to wondering if there were even more ways to look at the climate question, outside the probabilities debate. It is as probable as Cigs cause cancer as the climate is warming, they say. Well. We know there is a shaky link to lung cancer with small cell, 1 year to live, is almost always from Ciggies. It is what happened to my Mom.

But, that doesn't mean Cigs will kill you. It actually does not kill so many it would be banned, right? So, again, a very specious argument of statistics and an improper linking of data sets.

So, what facts are there? The politics is Polling for Consensus among "scientists." What more data can I see?

Well, it occurred to me that record temps might say something. But, it doesn't say more to me than I already know. Of course the climate changes year over year with orbital precession AND we really have no idea what causes Ice ages except these 23,000 year precession.

So, if we are getting hotter, there should be only new high temp records everywhere, and NO low temp records, ideally.

But, just a mixed bag if you sort the columns by record year.

Ireland hasn't had new high record since 1877.
Only 4 locales set high records in 2013. And one was Austria. But, Italy set a low record.
Canada's high record was back in 1937.
Poland, 1921.

OK? Now, low records.

Italy 2013, record low. (but Austria was high)
Philippines 2010.
North Ireland 2010.

So, here is what I think. The EU dominates the Greater Security Council and NATO. And only North Central Europe is warming. But, they have the power to make all this noise and pay for Cheerleaders like Sagan, from the beginning. They are spreading money through aid and the USA "back east," wants to be "like them" for some reason.

I guess they don't feel sophisticated even today. New York rubes, in their own minds. So, we are throwing our money in, too.

But, where are the facts? We see coopted opinion... could be this, probably is that, etc. You have to understand power for its own sake, to get this one.

Remember the Berkeley Report I talked about a couple of years ago? They found 1/3 of the reporting stations and sat data set did not agree with the land station data?

Well, they refined that last year and released an Update. You can go though and see anything you want I imagine, including Carl Sagan's Tooth Faery.

I was look for individual reporting stations. Here is Darwin.

And you feel this way becuase The Koch brothers dont want their energy business impacted financially and funded a bunch of bullshit studies and talking heads to convince you that global warming is not a threat

Great article here if you are, at all, interested in the science of this. Science is neutral and Science is not at all sure, right now, on the Climate, IFs, of anything. Very simple.

The Pretense of Knowledge http://judithcurry.com/2013/12/25/pretense-of-knowledge/

If man is not to do more harm than good in his efforts to improve the social order, he will have to learn that in this, as in all other fields where essential complexity of an organized kind prevails, he cannot acquire the full knowledge which would make mastery of the events possible.

He will therefore have to use what knowledge he can achieve, not to shape the results as the craftsman shapes his handiwork, but rather to cultivate a growth by providing the appropriate environment, in the manner in which the gardener does this for his plants. There is danger in the exuberant feeling of ever growing power which the advance of the physical sciences has engendered and which tempts man to try to subject not only our natural but also our human environment to the control of a human will.

Really? I've NEVER read anything by the Koch brothers, how did they give me my opinion? Never heard them mentioned much at all until they became the sinister George Soros of the Right, blamed for just about everything. I couldn't give a shit less if they go bankrupt or make billions. I think you've barked up the wrong tree.

Still waiting to hear an actual dire outcome that will affect me and mine. It was a fantastic attempt to divert the direction of the subject at hand, with some marginalization peppered in for good measure. But here's an idea, answer the question that has been quoted, yet ignored several times by the resident supporters of adopting the Eco-loon's counter-measures.

It really should be easy, it's only the entire justification of the movement. And please assume I don't give a fuck about major cities being forced to build sea walls, beachfront property being lost and thousand year old cultures being inconvenienced and having to move inland. If that's really all you got, you might as well abandon the whole fucking thing right now and go find a new crisis.

What is it with you folks and Gore? Is Gore the only person who has anything to say about global warming? Also, you seem to have a problem with uncertainty. Just because the San Andreas fault is overdue for the big one does not mean that it won't happen and that earthquakes have been debunked.

Or.... do you not believe that the fault will ever let loose because it hasn't yet?
What has the San Andreas fault to do with global warming?

It is simple - this whole thing is wholely and completely science. It only became some wider issue after big business saw that the science might actually impinge on their bottom line, and then they opted to take the tobacco approach and spent large amounts of money introducing doubt, politics and disturbances in the way things were shaping up.

NO difference. If in an earlier time it was found that the earth being round might upset a major industry, that industry would hire PR firms and do all they could to inject that same doubt. The scientists are only in it for the money, (never mind that the naysayers are as well), Not all the evidence is in, the pictures from outerspace were photoshoped, there isn't a consensus, mankind hasn't the ability to actually assertain the shape of the earth.

This has become common practice - that is, industry lying and introducing doubt, making science into a plaything, to be trusted only when that sicence seems to be on the side of the status quo.

there is no "philosophical struggle", there is only truth and lies, science and PR, profit and reality.

the globe is warming, we are doing it. It really is that simple.
Sounds like a religion thing to me. "God (Al Gore) said it. I believe it. It really is that simple."

It is more simple than all that.

We break thousands of high and low records for recorded temperature in the country every year.

Statistically that proves that our sample size is currently very small and that we dont have anywhere near enough data.

Says post office, makes me wonder how many stations are near other such heat retentative things as post offices....towns and cities.
