you can still get AR 15s pretty reasonable ...around 750 or so.i could build a match grade ar for not much more than that.except the bipod and scope/mounts.
metal shell casings are made of a soft metal and wont hurt your gun..most brass cased cartridges are re loadable. a good investment is a reloading press.
many cartridges the bullet itself will fit and fire out of other calibers ..for example a 30 06 can be reloaded with either AK round bullets or 308 round bullets. you just put the bullet into a different shell case. the powder can be interchanged also.primers are kind of hard to interchange.
the bullet velocity of a 223 a 30 06 and a 308 are about the same. around 3000 ft per second. the heavier rounds will however travel farther with less influence by the wind and other factors.
each one of these rounds has a 2 ft drop at 400 yards.so even a unskilled shot out to 400 yards can achieve pretty good shooting results. out to five hundred yards though the bullet drops 4 ft. that is why it is critical to know the distance of what you are shooting at.

If SHTF the most versatile and reliable and available round will be the .22LR. I have 8500 rounds stored.

a 22 is nice..past 100 yards you would be screwed. ill take a shotgun within 75 yards. a ar 15 within 400 yards and a bolt action rifle from 100 to 500 yards or further.for feeding a family a 22 is ideal cheap ammo ..good accuracy.it would keep the belly fed with birds and rabbit coon what ever. it wouldnt be my choice for a gun fight though.

I'm not expecting to have to defend myself at over 100 yards. And I'd rather have 10 rounds of .22 than one round of .223 or .308 or anything else.

Most people do not realize how deadly a .22LR round can be.....

So if felons lose their right to bear arms, do they lose their right to free speech too? It appears that laws that strip felons of guns after the sentence is complete are NOT subordinate to the constitution. How can that be?

Isn't the constitution supposed to be supreme over other laws? I find it very ironic that nonviolent victimless "criminals" such as pot growers are branded felons for life. It appears that "gun control" is very subjective.

It is.

Gun Control applies to most of us as well.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 made it a federal offense to possess firearms if one is an unlawful user of any controlled substance.

And they are working on making any psychiatric history a hindrance as well.

The Federal government has been chipping away at our rights for over a hundred years.

.22's are great tools for survival in most environments. It can take down animals large enough to feed a family and with good shot placement will end an attackers efforts without much fanfare. Also, most anyone over the age of 5 can handle a .22 effectively. For that, I would opt for something with a bit more punch in an urban decay situation as your assailant may be smart and seek cover. A .308 makes their choice limited to either very heavy cover or distance great enough to muddle the prize (read YOU).

And a lot of felons can have their right to own arms restored. It depends on the crime committed. Violent offenders are banned from possession of arms for life, but there are many felonies can be cleared effectively. An attorney can help in this area if one is affected.

Yep...something like that...I went with a different model, but anything in .308 makes for a great tool to keep thugs at bay.

I went with an M-14, Remington 870, heavy barreled Ruger 10/22 and a Glock M20. Sounds like our collections are similar.

Damn i forgot my hi-point 9mm carbine(ugly as fuck)
But sends lead down range all the time.1000 rounds and no failures,great little gun for the money($220)

My friend bought one of those High Point carbines. I have to agree it is ugly, but it works great. I think he has about 1000 through it as well and it has only jammed once, but it was a crushed round and not the gun.

I have an AR that is my carbine. I reload, so I can actually afford to practice with it. It is fun to collect. I have been working on mine since I was in the military back in the 80's. I cannot even list it all, but I do have a few that are my grab and go's.

i am former military ..i have been collecting guns for years. i am a patriot who believes in the constitution and the founding ideals of this country(USA).i am also a student of history.
whenever a vacuum is created SOMETHING always fills it...good or evil.
in the economy that we are in right now there is a vacuum, we have a vacuum of leadership and direction.the country is run by a bunch of corrupt fools as far as i can tell.both partys.
it is always best in this kind of political and economic climate to be completely prepared .food and a fire arm are the two most important things you can secure..shelter and water of course are high on the list.then medicine .of course knowledge .
a trick ALOT of people dont know about i was just thinking of.in a disaster like a earth quake ect. your water heater holds fresh water for you .avg is around 40 gallons . just shut the valve off to the water heater and use the boiler drain(spigot ) for some water.
i do know what the 22 is capable of and what it is not capable of. my father who used to take me hunting had killed at least three large black bear with 22 long rifle weapons..once with a pistol ..and once with a rifle that was frozen and would not work..so he had to feed it one round at a time.he told me when they would skin the animal they would be finding 22 bullets in the skin where it did not go through the rib cage or go through the skull.my eldest brother would not go hunting with my dad after one of his 22 caliber bear hunts.my dad threw my brother up on a old tree stump and the dogs and bear fought all the way around the stump while my father was pissing of a large black bear with a 22.my father was a very brave man.
the only place you can really kill a black bear is with a well placed shot to the eye..or to the ear.that is if the bear is kind enough to stand still fighting dogs to let you shoot him.
different calibers are made for different reasons and purposes. a 22 caliber (long rifle) travels at around 1100 to 1300 fps. a 223 is also a 22 caliber bullet..but the bullet weights almost twice as much and travels 3000 fps. can you kill bear or a man with a 22.LR? yea..you can..but it is not well suited for the task unless you are very close and the target is unsuspecting .
a 12 gauge shot gun using double 00 buck shot..throwing at least 13 large 30 caliber balls of ammo out all at one time reaching out to 75 yards.a shot gun is more user friendly under stress.
that means if you are pumping full of adrenaline . that means someone is threatening you..pointing a gun at you has a gun and you dont know who they are or what their intentions are and they have a gun.you are like a thousand times more likely to hit your target within 75 yards with a shot gun. if you are using number 4 shot high brass(my preference )you will be throwing out like thirty rounds or 22 cal at one time.NOTHING is more instantly lethal at 75 yards than a shot gun..that includes any machine gun you can think of.
