Hempy Bucket Mix

THseaman It is nute lockout & deficency. You had diagnosed this one correctly.
.
Flush with the new bottled water (mixed up) with a weak 1/4 strength dose of Grow it Green. Then wait until the next day, mix up a 1/2 strength dose of Grow it Green, with only a teaspoon of SPT added to that gallon of mix. Give each plant only 8 ounces of this mixed up fert/spt soultion.
.
Then give the girls, 6 hours of dark instead of the four hours, to help speed along recovery from the shock, they are currently in.
.
I'll check back in a few days to see how you are doing.... If they perk up and growth improves, slowly add upwards on the Grow it Green and stay very low on the SPT (due to the size of your pots).
.
Keep it Real...Organic....

Awesome dude, thanks for chiming in and concurring with my diagnosis, it's good to have a second opinion before I mess around with my girls. With a couple of exceptions like dose, I had already planned on doing exactly as you recommend too, lol.

Do you think the GIG and the SPT are enough of a complete nute regimen by themselves or should I add any additional micros/supplements/?

THANKS!

P.S., I tried to give you some more + rep but it told me I had to spread the love around, peace.

THseaman.... The GIG & SPT will get the job done. I'd just drop in a teaspoon of Epsom salt (per gallon of mixed up fert/spt), every third feeding, since you have a soilless mix.
.
Other than that.... I'd just run with what you have. The Flower Power will shore up the P, when preflowering starts.
.
& See great minds think alike..... I usually trust my gut on such matters, but a second opinion does settle my mind also.

im just curious but why are the plants so small? im no expert when it comes to growing but i know enough and when i was on day 27 mine were atleast a 1 1/2 ft. tall...it seems like you used alot more fertilizer and maybe other stuff. can you explain how it works in a nutshell?

They are small b/c I made the mistake of starting from seed in a lifeless medium! I might get flack for saying this from hempy bucket enthusiasts, but I will never grow from seed in hempy buckets again. It is SO FUCKING SLOW! Basically, you have to wait for the roots to get to the reservoir before they really start growing, but they don't really grow at first b/c you have them in a lifeless medium (no nutrients).

Now that all the roots have hit the reservoir (bottom 2" below the single drain hole), the growth will take off. But basically, the initial period the plant takes to get its roots to rez, you see very little growth.

Last time I used this method (hempy buckets) I started from clone, when the roots were already 4-5" long and they hit the rez quick and took off almost immediatly.

I didn't have access to any clones this grow so I had to start from seed. I don't think I will ever start from seed using hempy again though, takes too long.

Oh and also, This situation was compounded by the fact that the water at my new place is from a shallow well and very hard. I added filtration but it was not enough and the high ppm of the water I have been using caused the plants to lockout nutrients. So the fertilizer I have been feeding them hasn't been getting utilized and they are highly nutrient deficient. Nute deficient plants don't grow fast.

Does that answer your question?

Don't worry though, they will grow huge and produce a bountiful harvest of delicious buds. Check back in a month, you won't believe it is the same journal...unless I fuck up of course, lol.

Day 35 update. This is officially the slowest grow I've ever done. I switched from T5 to 600W HPS today so hopefully that will speed things up. Last week I switched my water to store bought spring water and added Cal Mag Plus to my nute regimen to treat a calcium deficiency. I also had a pretty bad algae bloom this week, so I'm going to be adding 2-3ml per gallon of 35% H202 on my watering days and suspend my use of super plant tonic organic supplement until the algae is under control. Enough talk here are the pics:

Kudos on the nice garden setup. I'm at approximately 2 weeks w/16 oz hempy party cups and I agree, initial growth is painstakingly slow. It is highly suggested to keep a mommy plant for clones for future grows in hempy buckets so you don't have that lag time for the roots to hit the rez. I also experienced the ram horn deal but I think my issue was with bringing the nutes in too early full strength. (barely over 1 1/2 weeks out of the ground) I flushed them and will do 1/2 strength every other time to get them used to their new food but i'm very interested to see how your grow turns out. It certainly seems like you are on top of things!

Thanks man, I'm trying to be on top of things. I've burned out the search feature on this site, and worn out my grow bible this time around.

I think if I do Hempy again I will stick to the traditional 3 parts perlite 1 part vermiculite so that the medium isn't so lifeless. AND, I won't put anything unrooted into a Hempy bucket ever again.

hey TH
i've got some hempy going right now and i was getting a lot of algae growth on the top layer as well. made some covers to go over the pots out of reflectix and the problem was solved.

this kind of shows just how much good the covers did, not a complete solution but it does a lot.

Yeah, the Algae doesn't seem to be affecting them too much actually. It's probably freaking me out more than it is them. I will post more pics soon. The girls are growing at the rate of about an inch a day now for the last 3 days. My best Sativa is 14" now. I'm glad too, I might actually get to flip them on schedule after all. I was hoping to switch to 12/12 Dec 1. We'll see...

ya you know in the hempy collective thread somebody posted that the algae really didn't do anything. doesn't seem like it does.

i've seen it get kinda moldy before...
don't just let the algae go crazy, if it starts looking too bad some h2o2 in a good couple of flushings in between feedings will def do the trick

but yeah a little really isn't gonna do much

So I just noticed this morning that my one and only Hindu Kush is a male! And, I noticed a little later than usual too. Usually I notice when they are just little green bumps, but this time I didn't get it out of the room until small balls had actually formed. The tip of the balls were just starting to open by the time I bagged em and tagged em...I hope this wasn't a critical garden ending mistake! I mean, can balls THIS big form overnight? I was just in there last night feeding them. How is it possible to hand feed a plant and not notice? I pulled it out of the bucket and checked the roots too. They looked good. At least I know the algae isn't fucking up the roots.

And no im not idiotic enough to just chuck the whole plant as is in my garbage, I was just shaking off the perlite to look at the roots. lol.

THseaman.... No, nads that size do not form overnight. It takes a few days. Sorry, that plant turned out to be a boy - his roots do look healthy though. SPT's good fungi and bacteria go along way on protecting / promoting root growth - even in a lifeless medium.
.
I'm about to go harvest some pollen right now, from a Lowryder 2 male. I've got a few LR2 females - I plan to seed for future grows. Do you ever keep a male and seed a few ? I prefer to have a few extra seeds in my own little seedbank - as I hate buying seeds.
.

I didn't think balls would grow that quickly. So, I slipped up, bummer. It doesn't sound like you think I should be that worried about pollen introduced into my room though eh, or should I?

I'm not to the point yet where I am breeding or harvesting my own seeds. I will get there one day soon hopefully though. Right now I've got algae, nitrogen deficiencies and pollen to contend with, lol. "Dude, pot is easy to grow, they're friggin weeds!" -THSeaman a few months back after my second ever grow. Now I'm eating my own words!

Day 42 Update: I've had substantial growth this week. My tallest Sativa is 19" now. I separated my plants by their height and put the shortest ones underneath their own light. So now I have one group of 9 and one group of 12 (21 total plants). Additionally I pruned the dead and dying lowest branches on all of my plants and "lollipopped" 3 of my short plants that were suffering due to previous PH problems.

I am feeding them full strength Ionic nutes with Cal Mag. I don't add any PH down anymore and feed/water my plants at a PH of 6.0-6.5 (I was as low as 5.7 previously and it did some damage). I feed on Tuesdays and Water on Saturdays as soon as the lights come on. I am going to flip them on Monday Dec 1st. I will give them 36hrs of dark and then go right into 12/12.

I was going to transplant them into 2g buckets before I flipped them, but after losing a male this week and seeing approx. where the root growth was at, I think I will leave these girls alone in their 44oz cups to the end. My thinking is, these cups are 9.5" tall, the same height as a 2g bucket. So transplanting wont create any additional room for the roots and could stress them out.

Here are the pics: (as usual comments and constructive criticism are all appreciatted)
