um there really isnt a way to tell from those pics.if you can give us a close up shot of the nodes (spaces in between branches) where they meet one another their may be some pre flowers.a female will have a white hair poking out of the sex organ, and the male will not and it will look more like a spade that droops over.dont act hastey as i accidently threw all my females away thinking they were males on my second grow!luckily it was just some good midgrade seeds and not a more popular genetic, that would have been sad

its most likely ph as you havnt used any ferts ,and you do grow outside so your plant would be able to handle them after the early stages of growth.go to your local hardware or garden store and get a cheap soil ph meter.if your not strapped for cash i would go online and but a digital one ,your water that you use is probably to high or low thats my issue, and the digital meter lets you check the ph of the water you plan to use and adjust it accordingly with ph up or ph down,i know it seems like a pain but its vital for any grower to own and use a ph meter.it could mean the difference between a successful crop or a few months of wasted time ,money and effort

1st time grower here and i have a few questions. Before i start, let me give you the legistics on my set up:

18 gallon steralite/rubbermaid container with 6 three inch net cups for plants. Typical Bubbleponics setup

My question is this....I have been playing around with the ph and have safely figured out how much pH down to get the level around 5.5 consistantly, but i just can't figure this PPM thing out and I do not have an EC meter or TDS meter currently. How can i figure this out without spending the money on a meter, or is it even possible. Also, with the tank, I have read that you shoudl keep as much water as 1 inch lower than the net cups, so with about 16 gallons of water how can i keep the PPM balanced or is there a way to just guesstimate this or is it even that important? some say yes some say no.....Thanks for the help

Hi im about 1 month into my grow and was wondering why my plants are starting to get this redish prurple tint on the stems on the upper part of the plant. and my leaves are still really green but i have noticed this almost purple hue to the leaf als on the upper part of plants. is that the start of something bad or good. im still a noobie so help will be appreciated.

honestly it could be a few things.if your growing an indica of afgani strain a lot of times they exhibit these colors.are you growing in or out, cold weather will also cause the plant to show there signs.its not a bad thing unless it happens to be a phosphorus imbalance which is the third thing that could cause this, generally your plants would also show other signs of phosphorus deficiency, and would be slow growing and appear sick,as long as your not seeing any of these other issues id think you would be fine

are you giving them fertilizer at this point?is your ph in check?these are really the only things that could cause this other that if your clones are sick which they shouldnt be as long as you took care to use proper hygine

i dont mean to bogart the questions but i myself have left a few and no one really seems to want to help me,luckily i am slightly experienced and can figure a lot of it out on my own,as are most of you.the new growers out there need people with experience like us to to jump in and save their asses,so i guess if who ever started this thread ever decides to step up ill back off but until then, the doctor is in

What exactly do you look for when determining when the plant is ready for harvest? What does "look at the trichs on the bud" mean exactly? I think i'm still a couple weeks away but I would some info on what to look for...
Thanks, appreacite it.

Im growing here in LA county California
IM growing inside but i have 2 flourescent light bulbs as light for the plant idk how many wattz
i think i water it alot like prolly everyday but i just spray the water on the leaves and stem cause last week i watered it normally and the soil is still sorta wet
i heard thats better to do to imitate wind and all that sorta stuff. I use no nutrients but i do have happy frog potting soil as the soil.
i have Snow Storm Ultra if that helps any?
this is a master kush strain and idk how old it is i got it as a clone like 2 weeks ago right when i got it it started flowering already
some leaves are brown and dying and the spots thaat keep growing are all light green I have no idea whats wrong with it i think it was cause i was over watering but i need your feed back and yes it has rooted and i transfered it to the pot its in like last week

i'm running low on bloom nutes and want to go organic....can bat guano be added with water/molasses, and just use it like that?

(im thinking i can just need reassurance)

And if so, what else is a good additive(kelp for a little N)

How do you decide on lighting? So apparently an HPS can be used through the whole growing cycle and every phase... Is this true? Is there a downside to not using other lights or even an UPSIDE if you do use MH or CFL for some phases? And how do you control the output of lumens, I dont know how big of a space I am growing yet but I have the money for the HPS which I'm getting next week. The space could go frome 5 by 3 feet down to 3 by 1.5, which is a big difference in space if your talking lumens.

Also can you put those rockwool starter cubes straight into soil? I figure that is the best way germinating, I've been trialing with paper towels and bag seed and the succession rate seems kinda low, although it could be the dumpy seeds.

Thanks A Lot

dont water the soil if its damp to the touch.foilar spraying is good but dont over do it.most likely your ph is off and your plant is suffering from no fertilizer.go but a ph meter ph up ph down, and some good nutrients youll be in business

hps produce more of a red light which budding plants love.mh produce more of a blue light which vegging plants love.yes you can use both and get great results but i find hps is a better veg to harvest light.compact florescents are good for both too but youll get a smaller yeild.i use led lighting which produce the exact lumens that vegging and flowering plants love and they run on only 90w of electricity while producing similar yeild to the hotter hps and metal halide light.great if heat is a issue for your grow.for the 5x3 area id go led hps or mh.for the smaller area i your fixed on the hps or mh i suggest a much smaller wattage as heat is going to be your worst enemy.led lighting is the light of the future.like compact florescent they use low energy produce low heat and put out exactly what your plants need unlike the hps and mh,and you can cram them in a small space with out any worry.rockwool works but it needs to have the ph adjusted if you neglect to do this your plants will die.because of this i hate rockwool.starting them in a paper towel or wash rag is the best way and then you can put them straight in the soil

@ indoor

Thanks for the info. I read if you use HPS ALL the way through your even waiting a week longer but your yield is bigger. So really I don't even need MH or CFL then. How do you know how far to keep the light away from the plant? And no answer to the lumens part? Can you direct me to a link for the LED lights, I'm curious about those. And I could even use HPS from the very beginning right, its not too powerful for newborns?

I found a site for the LED lighting, HTG Supply. The lights are even cheaper then HPS. Can these be used for the whole thing, as in I could buy ONE LED light and be set forever, well forever with this cabinet? Also how do you personally figure out how much lighting you need for your space, this is the one thing I'm really having a problem with. Once I sort this out I'll be able to come up with a detailed plan for my grow.

One more edit, if HPS are really better why doesnt everyone buy HPS. The small ones are not that expensive, and if your buying multiple CFLs or an HPS and MH then its probably going to be more then the one HPS you use?
