I would disagree with the part of big Pharma , we should keep their greedy little asses out of it , put it in the hands of the people , patients and caregivers only , and a patient being anyone that thinks they need it for their health , no registration and no doctors recommendation , we don’t need a doctor to tell us we feel we need it . And pot shops would be a plus .

Reread what I wrote.... No state no big pharma no list no cards...

If pharma could cure cancer for everyone in say five years with research into marijuana I would welcome their greedy asses.
Yes that point of view can not be argued , but once there in and set up then will come step two , it will be done on the pretense that its in the best interest of the public that only pharmaceutical grade can be produced and the standards will be so high that no one other than big pharma can make it , no more personal growing , no more caregivers and no more dispensary's , and then the price will increase to the point of current or past drug dealers prices .

The problem with big pharma is that they won't invest in anything they cannot protect ownership rights over. They cannot patent a plant that occurs naturally all around the globe. That is how/why we have gotten into this absurdity of MJ being placed on the Class I narcotic list to begin with :( Note: No profit = no medical use.

How about a bus to the 4th Annual Treating Yourself Expo in Toronto, Canada instead? It will be held May 24 - 26, 2013 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Looks like I've got my wife interested in maybe checking this out. I bet the end of May is beautiful in TO.

Plus, I just got a PM from the Main Man, Marco, that a Michigan MMJ card will INDEED grant entry to the vap lounge...

Too cool bro, thanks for that info. You know everyone in the industry will be there. I'm hoping to burn one with Big Buddha and Franco (GHS) 4sho :bigjoint: I am sure Remo will be around also, so maybe we'll be on UrbanGrower ;)

I would like to see better research done then that by rick simpson. If it really can cure cancer I'd like to see everyone benefit.

We still have to wait a month for the Board of Canvassers to accept that in GR the voters passed "decriminalization". As far as what I've read, they cannot revoke the bill, but only recount the votes and verify the validity.

Can you read? Almost all parts of that bill were dropped in the senate...
I can Read just fine.

THIS is from the bill as i JUST READ IT on the mi.gov SITE.
(3) THE DEPARTMENT SHALL NOT ALLOW ANY PERSON ACCESS TO ANY 14 INFORMATION ABOUT PATIENTS IN THE DEPARTMENT'S CONFIDENTIAL LIST OF
15 PERSONS TO WHOM THE DEPARTMENT HAS ISSUED REGISTRY IDENTIFICATION
16 CARDS OR FROM WHOM THE DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED AN APPLICATION OR TO
17 INFORMATION OTHERWISE MAINTAINED BY THE DEPARTMENT CONCERNING
18 PHYSICIANS WHO PROVIDE WRITTEN CERTIFICATION AND PRIMARY
19 CAREGIVERS, EXCEPT FOR THE FOLLOWING:
20 (A) AUTHORIZED EMPLOYEES OF THE DEPARTMENT IN THE COURSE OF
21 THEIR OFFICIAL DUTIES.
22 (B) STATE OR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS OR OFFICIALS, BUT
23 ONLY AS TO INQUIRIES MADE IN THE COURSE OF THEIR OFFICIAL DUTIES

26 REGISTRY IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.

From the Senate info on 6/12/12
CONTENTThe bill would amend the Michigan
Medical Marihuana Act (MMMA) to do
the following:
-- Require a photograph on a
qualifying patient's or primary
caregiver's registry identification
card.
-- Provide that a registry ID card
would expire two years, rather than
one year, after it was issued.
-- Allow employees of the Department
of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
(LARA) and of a LARA contractor to
have access to confidential
information.
-- Delete a requirement that LARA
verify information about a registry
ID card to law enforcement, and
instead allow a law enforcement
officer or official to have access to
registry information through the
Law Enforcement Information
Network (LEIN) under certain
circumstances.
-- Require LARA to contract with a
private entity to assist the
Department in processing and
issuing registry ID cards.
-- Require LARA to establish a review
panel to approve medical conditions
or treatments for addition to the
Act's list of debilitating medical
conditions for which a qualifying
patient may be issued a registry ID
card.
-- Require LARA to accept a written
petition from any person requesting
the addition of a medical condition
or treatment, and specify the
process for consideration and review
of a petition.

And as of 12-5-2012
House Bill 4834 (Substitute S-5 as reported by the Committee of the Whole)
Sponsor: Representative Gail Haines
House Committee: Judiciary
Senate Committee: Judiciary
CONTENT
The bill would amend the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act to do the following:
-- Require an applicant for a registry ID card to submit proof of Michigan residency by
providing a copy of a driver license, State ID card, or voter registration.
-- Require the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) to issue a registry ID
card within five business days of approving an application or renewal (rather than within
five days.)
-- Provide that a registry ID card would expire two years, rather than one year, after it was
issued.
-- Authorize LARA to contract with a private entity to assist the Department in processing
and issuing registry ID cards.
-- Require LARA, within six months after the bill's effective date, to establish a review
panel that would review petitions to approve medical conditions or treatments for
addition to the Act's list of debilitating medical conditions for which a qualifying patient
may be issued a registry ID card.
-- Require the review panel to meet at least twice per year to review and make
recommendations to LARA concerning any submitted petitions that were completed and
included documentation required by administrative rule.
-- Require a majority of the review panel members to be licensed physicians.
-- Create the "Michigan Medical Marihuana Fund" and require all fees collected under the
Act to be deposited into the Fund.
-- Require LARA to spend money from the proposed Fund, upon appropriation, for the
operation and oversight of the Michigan medical marihuana program.
MCL 333.26426 Legislative Analyst: Patrick Affholter
FISCAL IMPACT
The bill would have an indeterminate fiscal impact on the Department of Licensing and
Regulatory Affairs.
The bill would allow LARA to enter into a contract with a private contractor to assist with
processing and issuing identification cards. In 2010, the Department of Community Health
(DCH) performed a study that concluded that using a contractor for these services would
not be likely to save any money. The DCH report concluded that the costs of outsourcing
the processing and issuance portions of the medical marihuana program (MMP) would
exceed the savings by approximately $200,000 to $1.2 million. Since the bill would merely
allow LARA to enter into a contract for assistance with processing and issuance of
identification cards, this provision of the bill would likely produce no additional costs, but
could generate some savings, if the DCH estimates are not correct.
It is interesting is says nothing about being the final amendment, nor does it say anything close to stating other amendments previously added are no longer applicable.

I also find it interesting they want to defund the program as well as allow LARA to contract out services, which was already Proven as noted, would INCREASE THE COST of the program. SO they are increasing the cost, and eliminating the funds. How long before its running a deficit and will be touted as a BOON on the neck of the Michigan Taxpayer.

Rare D is correct, most have been dropped except for the 4 that have already cleared the house. Those are the only active bills. Thanks for putting up correct information D.

As to outsourcing, that was big when the department was running 6-9 months behind getting the cards out, but the purchase of a new printer allowed them to catch up.

The majority of the other doom and gloom is just old information brought up to cloud the current issues that are actually on the table.

yep, dropped, just like Snyder stated Right to Work is not a THING for him and its NOT RIGHT for Michigan.

I understand they told us all, those are not up for vote, but you know as well as I do, these Repuklicants will slide in one amendment with all desired changes, a minute prior to the vote, and it ll get ram rodded through and then voted for Immediate Effect, like they have done at every corner in the last 2 years.

You may say what you want, but their actions speak WAY Louder than YOUR WORDS.
