i think a lot of that depends on how long you think you'll live, based upon family statistics...If all the men in your family die before 80, take that shit early, if you all live into your 90s, maybe wait a few years...i'm planning on 67, seems like most of us die in our mid 80s...

I was lucky enough to be able to wait until I was 70 for the full benefit although I "retired" at 58. My folks/grandparents lived until mid 80's but they were smokers, overweight etc and I'm trying to be a little more careful. Biggest fear for me is getting dementia in any form but at 73, so far, no issues.

Let's say my full retirement age is 66, but I decide to retire at 62.
I get $2,000 per month if I retire at 62.........that's $24,000 per year.........$96,000 for the four years.
At 66 my monthly income will be $2,400 per month..........$400 more per month than at 62.
At an additional $400 per month, it will take 20 years to recoup the $96,000 I would have lost the first 4 years.

Yeah, the breakeven age on the analysis is about 80 give or take. Depends on how long you think you're going to live and if you really need the money. Tough decision for a lot of people to make especially if they have adequate resources at the start. Lots of pros and cons written about it. If you're married, spousal benefits could come into play if you've been the higher earner. The bigger the higher-earning spouse's benefit, the better for the surviving spouse. Every year you can wait past FRA earns you an additional 8% per year.

I have read the whole series. The teachings of Don Juan Mateus a Yaqui way of knowledge. Journey to ixtlan, the eagles gift. Carlos castenada, good writer. Very descriptive. Would love to try the “little smoke” or Jim’s on weed root… prepared correctly.
I would not suggest jimsom weed in any scenario. Lots of what Casteneda wrote about was at least second-hand NOT his own experience but it made from better reading. If you have ever been around indians sense of humor then you know that Don Juan was fucking with an academic.

my very large friend ate about 1/3 of a teaspoon of jimson weed seeds when we were much younger...i had to talk him out of drinking shampoo, and keep him from wandering off down the road. When he woke up the next day his neck was so stiff he whimpered all day....would not recommend this product to others.

I do understand that, at first don Juan was being just that way... But you don't spend years living and documenting a cultures shamanic ways as a "joke" his philosophy and anthropology studies of the subject are beside the point. He spent years with don Juan mateus. If don Juan hadn't wanted this, I'm sure it would've been no problem to make him "go away" instead of teaching him for years.

From what I understand, Casteneda was proven to be a fraud - The books are all fictional. Too bad- I read all of them a few times, made for some very interesting reading at the time!

I believe they are touted to be fictional. I believe it actually happened. The account though, may be a little skewed due to psychedelic influence. I have tripped before… hard! I don’t believe I could recount accurately what happened. What I perceived to happen, yes… in the fact that my mind and perceptions were altered. But what you see as it’s happened and what I experienced are two separate things. I’ve seen video, old… of two African shamans having a “fight” 30+ feet apart. Throwing “energy” waves at each other until one gives up. Presumably was supposed to be to the death. Haven’t seen that vid since 1990. But it happened, was silent film from early days of film. Every legend has truth. How much truth? Open to opinion. Detractors of Castaneda never experienced what he claimed. Their detraction is based on science, facts, inconsistencies, and accounts years beyond the actual timeframe. Same detractors will accept the Bible as fact… despite the fact that 80% of biblical accounts were removed or erased and the truckloads of inconsistencies in it. This grey area between science and fantasy has solid ground. So, I believe that it happened and Castaneda retold it as he perceived it with as much “truth” as he could remember…

Hmmm, his closest witches went missing? Castaneda recounted that Don Juan Mateus went “missing” walking from one plane of existence into another? Or am I mistaken.. been a long time since I owned the books.

Well, this 50 year old fart surveyed about 5000 feet of line for new municipal water going in. Then did another 1800 feet marking line and setting pins. Keep up! All you young-un’s… KEEP UP! Lol
nice. i should have kept active in my later years but i love being lazy too much.

when a young guy annoys me about being old, i like to tell them that they probably have 30 or more years of soul sucking, mind numbing work ahead of them. sounds like you have a job that would keep you sharp and active. i loved my job, as much as you can love being on a leash made of a paycheck, but it was work and would have preferred to sit back with some great weed, a fun movie and relax like god intended.

I remember knowing it all. Lol
Being retired IS all it's cracked up to be except for the "Being in line to be the next to die" and wondering how long the line is.
