HLVd destroying cannabis crops

As recounted a few posts ago, HLVd has also reached Europe very easily given now the widespread practice of buying clones from overseas. I don't think 90% are infected but I don't see why it can't be possible. If you go into a cultivation and touch HLVd you can bring it into your home, if you know someone who cultivates and has come into enough contact with the disease you risk bringing it into your cultivation anyway, many studies ( and not from companies bragging about curing it with a product or uv rays as, moreover, Dark Nursery has also done) point out that even a dry flower from a cultivation with the presence of the virus could (although it is extremely difficult) contain a viral load so great that risk even there to bring home the virus or there are those who even talk about transmission of the virus with infected seeds, I can assure you that they have found traces of the virus even in seeds (as rare as it is) and it happened just at Canapa Mundi in Rome this year where they analyzed several clones and seeds . Like EVERY virus there are the asymptomatic plants and plants that are minimally disturbed by the virus and in the meantime there are a whole host of plants that do not yield resin, have mutated internodes (they grow pointing all at 90°) and stems that look like they are made of rubber. There is some plant or crop that is more affected but I don't see how it can't be possible given the ease of transmission. The only way that exists at the moment to cure HLVd is by growing the tissue of infected plants since the virus goes to affect the plant's DNA and there is neither a light nor a miracle liquid that goes to work on the DNA

Are people claiming to have cured it via uv. Would anyone know what typ of uv they are using, amouts, and times of exposure. Certain types of uv in certain amounts can start altering the dna of the plant so probably isnt a good idea.

Really only a concern to the commercial market.
If you are growing from seed for yourself, it isnt likely you will ever have to deal with it.
Growing entire crops of the same genetics will always be susceptible to more risk than diversity.

I've honestly never heard of any cases of healing from HLVd with UV or at least never seen any lab tests that actually show that it can be done. I heard some time ago that thanks to UV you had a regression of symptoms but nothing for sure, I think UV serves more for sterilization of environments from the virus and for that I think it is useful from that point of view.

Monsanto or some big-wig ass company is gona come out with hlvd-resistant strains.

Watch.
? Monsanto spreads disease. Chemical companies are not stupid and moral. They are smart and immoral. Big Ag was founded on old farm literature that details how to grow healthy disease free crops that produce quality livestock. They make sure no one is growing healthy disease immune crops. It's very well understood how to prevent viruses. Boils down to trace mineral more often than not. Doesn't stop vaccine promotion.

Beauvida I don't know where you get that from but i get a kick out of it. There has always been plant viruses, they are not as prevelant as fungal diseases in plants but they have been around long before monsanto. The only way to prevent viruses is dont let the virus near your plants, trace mineral is not going to make a difference if the plant is exposed to the virus.

It started with the OG cuts 10+ years ago… I was ringing the bells on ICMaG about Dudding … was quite the war of words … extreme denial … Progressive Options in SoCal was the hot spot
I for sure got it from some GG4 cuts from elemental San jose when they got a drop early on in the gg4 days. Fucked me up good and wasn’t any info out there about it. Was during one of the Giants world series games i had made the run back down to my old hometown. Pretty sure it was 2014. But after having gotten if for real from that it sure did remind me of some really fucked up shit, the same shit, from some blue dream cuts i had gotten from harborside oakland (prob also DHN orMidnight farms) a few yrs earlier. More like 2010? Maybe 2009.

Viroid and virus are very different things.

To put it simply, a viroid is just a strand of rna that will harm healthy cell replication over time. It's similar to prion diseases, like chronic wasting disease in deer.

I find it fascinating that this is effecting a billion dollar industry. Now that money is being lost, maybe we will have the impetuous to find better treatment through more comprehensive understanding.

Has anyone (or someone you know) actually had their plants get infected by some means *other than* bringing an infected plant/cutting into their grow? Or has it spread to 90% of commercial ops in California just from trading clones?

Exactly! It was first detected in Europe around 1987 in Hops which is a cousin to cannabis in the family Cannabaceae:

Since the Universities can't really study Cannabis directly what is latent in Hops isn't necessarily so in its' cousin cannabis. Thank you for posting that.

I wouldn’t consider myself a shitty grower and yet i’ve battled that crap a few times now. Its for real. Just because you haven’t had the pleasure of dealing with it (yet?) doesn’t mean a shitload of us out here in California haven’t been dealing with this for years. I have family members in the legal side and farms they deal with have been testing positive for it. That doesn’t mean everything will dudd on them if they know how to deal with it.
What in your opinion is the best way to deal with it?

He deals with it by not having sick plants around. Keep the young vigorous plants for a grow or two and then start fresh from seed.

Tissue cultures are the only way to "cure" a plant. Cure being in parenthesis because you're creating an artificial seed/clone using tissue that is unaffected by the viroid. It's not cheap.

There is also some evidence that it can be transferred through infected parent strains to seeds.

Think clones and seeds. It’s more of a threat than you must realize.
