If you re-use soil, black lava rock or pumice will not break down as fast as perlite.
They also don't float to the top of pots over time(watering).

You couldn't get it @ home depot, but nurseries/landscape co. have it sometimes.

Apparently some Home Depots do carry a type of volcanic rock. Not sure exactly what it is, i will do some digging and post a link.

Not actually sure if home depot carries it.

@DonPetro My HD carries lava rock, perlite and vermiculite in 2 cf bags.

Some building supply stores also carry large amounts of perlite for cheap. I like to shop landscaping, bulding supply, and feed stores before the nurseries and hydro shops

DP, I'd make sure the only ingredient is Zeolite. Are you looking for an aeration product? I agree with Fresno, look at the landscaping companies, building supply and even nurseries before you go to the hydrostore.

well you got the closed holes on the bottom...They should be on top....They help watering....Then also the air holes should be on the bottom...They help air prune the roots at the bottom....

I actually have a plant in a 7 gallon air pot right now that is upside down too, lol...Spaced it when I transplanted.
