How deep the hole? Rock problem.

Hi all,

I found an amazing spot, full light, nobody goes there cause its very deep in the woods. A nice strong stream of water is running through the patch.

Well, the local soil is amazing, black earth with lots of humus. Only problem is is seems to be on top of a giant single very, very large rock. So at a dept of 1,5 foot you hit the rock. I planted a couple of plants. The holes are very large, id say 3 feet wide.

So my question, will the roots grow WIDE or they absolutely need to go deep???
thanks.

The irrigation doesnt seems to be a problem, it all goes into the stream and i added some polymer crystals.

Cannabis has a tap root, evenly dispersed side roots, and surface micro-roots. Almost any soil depth of 12 inches or greater will be fine.

The roots of last year's grow didn't go very deep at all ... I agree with the others ... you should be fine ... good luck with your grow ... consider yourself Bless to have the opportunity to grow outside ... it's a wonderful experience ...

I found a really nice patch, but again, the rock is at 1 feet deep. I could bring soil and make little pyramids of dirt and plant my ladies there?

No other plants, exept raspberry plants scattered around, but no much. There is hay covering the ground... some small plant are starting to grow, but no trees on the patch.

Sorry to thread jack, but I found a relatively decent guerrilla grow spot for my babies (who I must plant tomorrow.. ECCK!!!!) and all I can see around the area is red clay.... Will they grow properly if I dig out some decent size holes and fill it with the same medium I've been using up until now? How big of a hole should I dig? Thanks so much for the info... :)

just dig out a good 1 1/2 foot diameter hole about 2 foot down and mix in with the soil you brought in the soil you dug up .. then make your hole a little bigger for all the soil to go into .. hope that helps some

S .. in this case i think it should be fine .. watch out for roots from other plants stealing nutes from your plants .. i think if will be fine if you dont have a big rain to wash away alot of that soil ..

You need to dig a hole equal to the size of a 5 gallon bucket. Then fill the hole with a mix of potting soil and vermiculite. The roots will fill the hole but not go past into the clay. After the plant is established add a sack of additional soil and vermiculite to base.

They will be fine. 1 1/2 feet is plenty.
Plenty of pots are smaller than 1 1/2 feet and plants grow fine.
They will probably grow great
