How did people in the 60s and 70s grow weed?

I was looking through a vintage high times december 1977 I believe and it had the top 40 buds of 1977 and they weren't pretty compared to a newer issue. What methods were used? Did you just find a few bag seeds plant em in dirt and grow under the sun? I'm just curious as to how that plant came to be cuz now any old newbie can grow A++ top shelf stuff.

back in those days they had to grow them by candlelight while it grew they made arrow heads, and the women made loincloths out of cow skin for the families to wear......
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to sunni again.

they grew it like they do today, outdoors i mean, ive seen old video of a guy with 10 gallon pots with plants in them all spaced apart, it was in his back yard aswell, back then outdoors was the preferd method, they didnt have police devoting manpower to stops grows in the but fuck off now where.

I've talked to a few old timers, one said he saw about 3 acres of public land full of plants, poked lines of holes and seeded.
Most just grew in backyard like watermelons.

We have evolved our genetics and have learned so much more about how the plant grows.

Most of us new farmers are better then our parent farmers.

WE HAVE EVOLVED.

well it starts as a seed... then it gets planted.. and taken care of as any plant you wish to harvest should..

.. I smoked stuff back in the 80's and it hit me more of a head high back then.. have smoked all kinds as a 40+ and nothing was comparable to the way the stuff in the 80's-90's was..
I think as you get older the head high stuff does not effect you as much? I dunno.. any 40+'s agree/disagree?

My mom recalls cannabis without seeds in the 70's. She said there were a few times were it was just as strong as today but generally not as a whole.

See this is why bag appeal is complete horse shit IMO..
Yes, those buds weren't much to look at back then, but had you smoked them I bet you'd have an entire different appreciation for them..
Not only that but it wasn't so much how they were grown, but more so how they were handled after grown.. Acapulco gold is said to have gotten its golden color from being dried out in the Mexican sun.. can you imagine the thread on riu where the person was asking about drying their harvest out in the sun??
Next these drugs were smuggled out of the locals they were grown in, mexico, Thailand, Cambodia, Africa, etc etc.. lilcare was taken as the buds were stuffed into tthings like car tires and other lovely things..
Today I'd bet most people aren't even 5 people away from the grower .. back then you were no where near that close to the person who grew the bud.. and today, people take more care of the buds after harvest ..
rather simple actually why bud back then looked the way it did and why today's bud looks the way it does, and I'd say genetics is about the smallest reason of the long list ..
My $.02..

Now I never said it was solely genetics and I completely agree with you, but we have come a long ways from where we were.

Oh and your right that most people are no farther then prob 5 people away from who actually grow it, most of them grown back then were also pure sativa's, a lot of landrace, but of course most of our genetics today back trace to the originals, that's why I believe so firmly on keeping genetics alive.

Sorry giggles I wasn't trying to point our your post with mine, just this whole thread brothers me is all..
Cannabis today has become big business, and as a result the product is treated as such..
Back than not so much.. I've never even smoked any of the infamous weeds from yesterday year, so its not even nostalgia for me..

Indica's and sativa's were available in the 70'a I had a nice batch of "affie" back in 77 lol

My buds were as good as I grow today, not much indoor grows back then.

I completely understand racer, I know what you mean how it's become a big business, hopefully it will go in the right direction.

I know there was, that's why I said most of them were. I had a few indicas here and there but not like they are today.

I can honestly say the buds I grow now with my schooling and what I've learned are far better then what I use to be growing and smoking that's for sure.
