How long does it take to get good at this?

Honestly as soon as you're smoking herb that you like, that you grew. . .. you're "good at it".

Funny thing is, I really thought I "nailed" my first grow aside from one plant that revegged. But in hindsight, my "best" grow was probably my 4th, I pulled what I would consider to be my "best" flower to date. Not THEE best, but MY best.

I feel like I was "good at it" from the start, but I am continually humbled. But I'm happy, and I'm having a fucking B L A S T doing it. And collab'ing with my Dad. It's all I could ever ask for.

How about laying out your entire gear chain while you're touting "cannabis specific" nutes? Let the less experienced see how you're pulling down heavy weight.
I'm not a "big fish" but I'll guarantee that commercial grows aren't using tomato fertilizer. I've know a guy that runs one out west. They run advanced.
My gear chain is gavita and fluence LEDs, cloud coir, #7 smart pots, House n Garden nutes.
I just started a grow journal, your welcome to follow it.

Every grow should be a learning experience and when that stops I feel sorry for you. Try something new occasionally. Do some side by sides like I did 3 times with flushing. Absolutely nobody could tell the difference in taste or odor. Ash color is not indicative of anything but the level of dryness in the bud. I stopped flushing then and laugh at people who insist it's necessary or helpful.

Dude, I'm in Alaska. I know multiple legally licensed and they'll use anything they believe in. But the bulk is Jack's. The most popular nutrient in the Interior by far.

Same. After my first run I thought I was the god of growing because of the fire I pushed up. Then recently I was looking at pictures of that grow, and yeah, not great. Big buds, but fluffy and spacious. A lot of burnt leaves, harvested way early, ect ect. It was a lot better than most people's first, and it probably keep me in the game, but me and my crop were both pretty cringy in hindsight.

I’d say if you want to get good at it study the problems people have so at least you can identify them. There is a great problems ID on grow weed easy that’s called diagnose my sick plant. Study that shit.

Anyone starting to grow should grow in soils because it’s the most forgiving, keep plants small and make your pots large and use organics so you don’t burn your plants. If you try to grow a plant in tiny pots there’s a much smaller chance of success.

Agreed! I actually have done flush vs. not flushed, the only real thing i noticed was slightly better bag appeal on the flushed plant. In the future i intend to do GH 3 part, one clone with the base & another "with all the fixins" though I'll allow calmag in the base clones to prevent coco problems, lol.

Growing weed is easy. What makes it difficult for some is falling for all this cannabis specific nonsense.

I'll never change anyone's minds that are caught up in all the cannabis growing marketing nonsense and don't really care.

Cannabis is a flowering plant. Treat it like one. That's all you need to do.

As for nutrients, some of the best grows you'll see on this site and others are done using simple nutrients like Jacks.

the only commercial Op I have personal knowledge of runs Jack's. Anybody who runs a grow as a business isn't going the waste money on watered down hype when they can get the same nutrients in dry salt form for 1/10th the cost. that's bad business.

I’m on my first plant, well three now. Obviously the first plant I have had some issues on. Is it typical to run into deficiency’s here and there with every grow. Does one eventually get skilled enough to run a grow beginning to end with zero issues?

I scour this site on the daily and to try Intake as much info as possible. A lot of conflicting info I must say but I am definitely learning a lot. Just curious if one ever reaches a point where they could grow blind folded.
Growing marijuana is a skill. Like playing a piano is a skill. Some people can pick up a skill naturally with ease and others have to work at it. I find its like anything else in life, you get out what you put in.

My first grow was abysmal despite getting to harvest. It was based on terrible information but I decided to persevere and have spent an incredible amount of time learning since. The more research and experience you put in the better you and your product will become.

I've found that GH Flora Trio works good for me. I can get 3, 6 gallon jugs for $379 out the door, and it will last me a whole grow with ~90 plants. I've heard of Jacks 321, but im too lazy to mix it up.
