How to stop mother from growing vertically?

There are probably a few different methods to this, but I was looking for input on which is best and would cause the least amount of stress.

It's going to grow toward the light no matter what you do. Even if you bend the branches strait out which is totally fine all the new growth will still go towards the light' it's just how it works. My recommendation is top and spread out the branches, the top those and so on. The nice thing about this is for every tip you clip you generate 2 or 3 more making more budding sights.

I just keep topping..as long as you don't cut more than 50% at one time your good

you could top it, or carefully tie it down(bend a little at a time)

both are good either way, it just depends on the size of the plant.

id say top it if is more than foot and a half, and if you are not going to flower your mother, keep topping ever 2-3 weeks or until healed.

if it a foot and 1/2 or shorter, tie it down. the easiest way would to be to pinch it between pointer finger and thumb(be care not to pinch to hard, as there is a white tube inside the steam that you DO NOT want to break) just enough to soften the steam, keep it tied down till the steam gets more tree trunk looking and you'll be set. you can keep bending it one spot at a time to make the plant super bushy

i've got a seven foot beast outside. i've got it tied down to about 3 feet, needless to say, she's growin sideways. got it tied down lightly with paper rope, about half way up the plant. only did this after about three months old.
she was a strong girl, took some training before i decided upon doing this.
my top turned up to the sun, not two days after the tie down. didnt bother tying the arms down, let them do their thing. just shifted them a bit to allow for more sun.
