Back in the day a "lid" was $10, good Columbian was $25 and there was no "sinsemilla" to speak of as everything was outdoor mexican sativa.

A good lid was 4 fingers and considered an OZ.

We used thes to weigh.

If you were big time you had wone of these:

shit you had to be in hog heaven to own that bottom scale.....I never had enough to spend on one....the postal scale at top was kinda rare to in my group we would borrow one from a friend time to time........cool pics.......thanks for info.

we also woulld use a string most time kite string and tie in the doorway and tie a stick or cut a coat hanger and make a balance scale out of that......just had to have the known weight you wanted to use.

and those triple beams are where the term "dialed in" came from too, cuz you'd have to zero em out by using that little dial on the left side of the platform till it balanced. todays weed trivia.

I was exposed to the world of weed in 1970....when most was bought in kilos.....2.2 lbs....busting it up required a kitchen table! A buddy and I would just bag, bag, bag will we had 40-45 bags that "appeared" to be a "lid", according to the fluffiness of the weed...we sold it for $12......$10 ea for 3 lids....sometimes we'd use one of the little finger scales, but mostly it was just knowing how much ya bought to bust and equalizing the bags to be about the same......mid 70's I acquired a triple beam in order to weight out hash that I was buying in "moonpies"....which was 10-12 oz per....
I remember a friend turning me on to some "golden" weed for 30 a qtr around 1975, which was so damn high, very few got any....but it was some dank which is still talked about today as some unique weed for it's color.....and lick to the head!

The ways to smoke it have also changed dramatically. Most of the younger members grow up smoking from vaporizers and "blunts". I guess the whole blunt phenomena came along with rappers but I've never understood the purpose other than being mildly more discrete than a outright joint. Hookas, bongs, power-hitters,shotgunners etc. have all come a long way. I remember when weed was so plentiful that several of my friends and I would sit around with literally grocery sacks of the stuff and smoke until we were almost straight. We even had a club (more of a contest if the truth be known.) 30 single bong hits in a row, 10 minute break between each 10 hits. A seemingly endless list of rules including 1. Too much fire from the lighter?...start all over again 2. Blowing back through the bong?...start again 3. Exhaling in under 3 seconds after a hit ? you guessed it. LOL The last hit was also packed extremely tightly by a senior club-member. This was called the "snowcone" hit. More than a few could not complete this critical final hit. Come to think of it the good-old-days were sometimes not all that good lol.

in the early 70s here in MI, a Lid was considered an OZ. or basically what you could stuff into an old flip over sandwich baggy.

youd stuff an oz in the sandwich baggy and it was filled to the Lid. you would have to flip the lid over, and fold teh front part of the baggy back over the lid to hold it in.
but ya, it was basically around 30grams ect.... 1/2 a lid was 1/2 a baggy, or about 1/2 oz, ect...

i recally the late 70s, early 80s being when scales and more costly pricing came into play. by 81/82, most the folk here were selling from ozs to 1/8ths and it was more costly as the size went down.

you could buy an oz for 80.00 then sell it by the 1/8th for 20.00 each. effectively doubling your money. but those days are long gone.

In so cal it all changed in 1976........In '75 lids of good "comercial" were $10, lids of panama red or columbian were $30. By summer of '76 senimilla from humbolt was trickling in and by summer of '76 you could'nt find a lid anymore......an oz of some good limey piney was $100. Pony nailed the lid deal.........pile the lid full on an old bugler can .........

The cheapest I can remember seeing single elbows go for was 350 & it wasn't bad. of course it warrants noting that all these three and four finger bags we so fondly recall, were from the days of yore, prior to the age of compression; when bud was fluffy and hydraulic presses were only used to do mechanic work on your car. I remember the first time I saw brick; my jaw dropped. " Why the FUCK did they do that to this weed!?!?" oh i was soooo bummed.

Never really did a lot of dealing but I do remember buying Lbs for $100 and selling the lids for $10 and keeping 6 zips for our selfs.

Gave up when some unknown chick came to the door and bitched me out cause I had nothing for her.
