He over reacted because his feelings were hurt and trust broken. It's understandable even if it wasn't the right reaction.

I think you got some good advice from April and Sunny.. if it was something little.. why was it something she felt like she had to lie about? does she think it will disappoint you or anger you? is she avoiding a reaction she does not want to get from you? think of the reasons she would feel the need to lie. If it was such a little thing why did you ask multiple time that she felt she had to swear on her life about it? HUMMM.... sounds like there could be more to it. Just remember there are 2 sides to it.
Just asking.. I was not there and may never know why it was done but it was.
I say look to yourself for the answer of why. Let it go this time but if it becomes a pattern you have to seriously talk about the why.

This whole thing is over a cat box being a little dirty. He found "evidence" that she was lying. That basically means there was a clump or two in the box.

When the box is dirty, cats will hold their bowels. Soon as it's clean they run to the box to use it. Guy took a nap and woke up to find some clumps in the box.
