im getting ready to put my BLUE MYSTIC seed from nirvana in some soil so i need so good orgain soil compounds to start out with! all ideas are welcomed thanks RIU! i was think of blood meal and marical soil with perlite.

I use Pro-Mix HP. Its a High Porosity mix, and I've found it to be almost impossible to over/under-water with this stuff. very healthy root system. details can be found here: http://www.premierhort.com/eProMix/Horticulture/fHorticulture.htm

Note: on the bales it says to start nutrients within 7 days. it has all the macro and micro nutes for 1 week, then you'll have to start giving them nutrients, that is unless you add some castings or other soil to it.

I use subcool's soil recipe with fantastic results.
Ingredients:

8 large Bags of a high-quality organic potting soil with coco fiber and mycorrhizae (i.e., your base soil)
25-50lbs of worm castings
5 lbs steamed bone meal
5lbs Bloom bat guano
5lb Blood Meal
3lbs Rock Phosphate
3/4 cup Epson Salts
1/2cup sweet lime (dolomite)
1/2 cup azomite (trace elements)
2 Tsp powdered humic acid

If you want to stay local -LOWES
Peat moss(already ph'd)
coco bricks
perlite
pulverized lime
blood meal
bone meal
bio-tone(fungi-bacteria)

i prefer guano's over blood and bone meal which you can order cheap off line.

Blood meal and bone meal arent immediately available for the plants, they need to bake in the soil for atleast a month.

yeah i know that. i made 2 mixes. 1 for the 1st transplant and a 2nd with the bone meal in it to add in a little while. i looked for pro mix but they didnt carry it at the store loction i was at.

use peace of mind products. They are fortified with bacteria and fungi, benes of course :)

Use peat moss, mix in worm casts. 30 percent or so. Same with perlite. Use the chunkly stuff.

Add one tbsp of blood and kelp meal to a gallon of soil
use 2 tbsp of bone meal to a gallon of soil.

Mix this is a trash can or rubbermaid. Well MIX it on a tarp then store this in a rubbermaid. Make sure you wet it with some molasses and water to a moist degree so as it can "cook" and therby establish a soil food web with living bacteria and myco to help the plant. The organisms will break down the organics in the soil so the plant can eat. The more the merrrier. The plant decides how much.

It takes a few months or a month at least to "cook".

Search here, or google LC's Soiless Mix #1 or LC's Soiless Mix #2

#1 is for straight peat moss and #2 is for Pro Mix or the like.

All local ingredients and you can make as little or as much as you like.

I make 2cf at the time which nicely fills a 15 gallon trash can.

Check it out, it will be well worth the read.

Wet

I use custom made soil, all based organic..... If you can get dry cow shit and worm cast, that will be great to mix with any soil, just add something to hold water, and you will be good to go. Also save all your organic waste (fruits outside layer, egg cover layer, dry leaves that you pick up from your garden, and keep the grass (if you lawn it)) Put all that under the sun and water and mix it with soil, and after a couple of months you will end up with a rich organic soil. Then add the worm cast and cow shit (the cows has to be feed with grass, no chemical stuff) I am lucky to have a lot of grass with 5 cows to help me fertilize my soil :)

in what rations would you use those?
I also forgot some compost(mushroom)
30% peat
30% coco
30%perlite
10% compost
per gallon of soil add
1tbs blood meal
1tbs bone meal
1 tbs lime
1/2c bio-tone (or what ever it says on the bag.)
The peat/coco/perlite numbers a pretty flexible, just keep the perlite high.
