I survived the Butte Fire

So, power went out around 5:45pm last Wednesday and I didn't think much of it, until I turned on the radio and heard that our city was being evacuated. I started calling around and heard that the fire had gone from 1,200 to 14,000 acres overnight. So, I started packing everything up. Pictures, electronics, clothes, food. I sent my kid, the animals, and all my stuff with the neighbors and decided I was going to stay until I saw flames. I waffled a bit and almost took off yesterday when I started seeing ash rain, huge plumes, and helicopters/planes passing by every ten minutes. Last I checked it was up to 70k+ acres torched. 56 homes, 100 outbuildings lost. 4,000 volunteers, 9 bombers, 20 helicopters, 21 dozers, 10 water tankers, and one assload of fire trucks. Might not of been the smartest idea to wait, but it paid off. Apparently, they got control of the fire line last night and managed to re-route power from the dam. So, our power is back on, and I don't have to rely on my generator anymore.

I survived and so did all my plants, so I am celebrating with a hundred dollar bottle of bourbon I have been saving. Oh, and I took some pics for you guys.

Whoa! Yes glad you're OK!

And thanks for sharing pix of the forest billowing behind your beautiful garden! Those images are (hopefully) pretty unique...

Think the burnt-off area provide your property a fire buffer for a few years?

You know, I sure as shit hope so. My next door neighbor, who has lived here for 40 years says he has never seen anything like this before. 10,000 people have been displaced, and out of the 3 counties that have been evacuated, there have been something like 400 homes lost. The shit has spread a quarter way across the state. Amador, Calaveras. As far south ans Angels Camp and as far north as highway 4. Some pretty frightening shit. Especially when I didn't have a reliable way to communicate with anyone. Hopefully the roads will open up again soon so I can pick up a fucking pack of ciggarettes!

But, yea, I think we should be safe for another few years before we have to worry about another big outbreak.

Holy shit...glad youre ok

Cats, rabbits and the kid's pet rat all went with the neighbors to the red cross shelter. Puppy stayed with me the whole time. She seemed pretty un-fazed about the whole thing. We BBq'd last night. She enjoyed her $13 steak. I just talked to my neighbors and he said that there is a rumor the roads will open up tomorrow. I sure hope so.

What a showman! When most of us leave the boards for a few days it's usually for pretty mundane shit. When Pin leaves the boards, it's to survive something out of an action/disaster flick! We already knew you have more style than us, why you gotta rub it in? Seriously, I admire your balls for waiting around, and I'm glad everything turned out alright. Nice pics, too. It's always nice to show some pics to back up tales of a fantastic adventure ;)

@Pinworm congrats on your good fortune... stupid as it is, I would have stayed, too.

I'm glad everyone is safe- in both plant and animal kingdoms.

So how's that pine ash foliar treatment going?

And if you've been without a pack of smokes for this long, just kick the fuckers. Save your lungs for the good stuff!

Rite on dude! Glad for you that it missed you bro.
My buddy just got back from his grandmas in Sonora. Said there's ash all over her yard. Must be one huge fire.

Yea when I seen how fast it grew over night, I packed everything I could get in the truck, and have been glued to the weather/winds.
4 days with little to no wind, amazing.
