WTF are you talking about???
Oh that's right, you build your own LED systems so you don't have that problem... Many COB system manufacturers do not recommend running the LED more than 12 hours straight... If they don't specify how much time they need to cool off, I take it that their not meant for vegging...

Though i do think thats subjectice.
Im in a cold climate. Hps makes total sense for me.
Keeps my canopy nice and warm too.
you should try out CMH. i went hps, cmh and now diy cobs. the cmh has a much better spectrum than hps. i'm in CO and my exhaust fan hardly turns on with cobs.

How were your yields with the CMH compared to HPS? I looked into them briefly some time ago but a 400 watt bulb was over 100 bucks so I stopped looking... From what I remember there was a slight benefit in efficiency but not enough to justify the switchover/bulb costs... Peace!

I just dont like having an internal ballast. Itd heat my tent too much.
i bought a kit years ago: philips ballast and philips 315 bulb for 200 bucks. had an old hood on hand. i could mount the ballast anywhere. it really didn't get that hot though, could put your hand on it easy.

but i''m with ya, hps is fine and dandy.

Im not pushing mars hydro im running them she asked i answered. I do recommend them 100% they are pushing out pounds of quality buds for me. Of course HPS are ideal but i can't run them for 1 and secondly LEDs have came along way and are giving HPS some stiff competition. So stop trollin

i'd say a 315 was about the same as maybe 450 to 500w of hps.

it is a bit more efficient but the spectrum was way better IMO and bulbs last way longer. and it runs way cooler too.

i think quality was way better with the cmh just cause it has a decent amount of blue too compared to hps.

The improved spectrum vs HPS was what attracted me but, having been burned multiple times with specs, I tend to judge more by yield than specs... You think it was 50% more efficient than HPS? That sounds too good to be true on paper... I was guessing more in the 10% range... All the best!

From what I can tell, certain people will hate every LED that's not DIY. (as well as many that are.) Don't take it to heart... You are clearly trying to help while some others may not be... BTW, if you select reply on the post that your replying to, it will quote that poster and indicate who you're addressing. Best of luck!

this is the way i look at it:

315cmh is perfect for 3x3 (9 sq ft). if you go by the old rule of thumb for hps which is 50 w/sq ft, you'd need 450w hps for the same 9 sq ft..

You get better yield to cost?
i never really cared much about yield. i'm always growing different strains so some yield more than others no matter what light you use.
the quality was way better with cmh because of more blues and it also has uv which hps doesn't.

even with my diy cobs (3000K), i supplement with T5 actinic blue bulbs for more blues.

do a search for chlorophyll A and B spectral charts. very strong blue peak and a huge red peak. what i have now mimics that quite well.

Don't worry... Most of the people here are great! Most people are here to share and learn about their favorite hobby! Some are here for reasons I can't figure out but as with all social media, you have to take the bad with the good! You're halfway there on the liking stuff! (It's right next to reply.) Best of luck!
