In need of some backyard grow tips.

This is my first time growing, and my partner's second. We're just doing a backyard grow and we're trying to learn more about the growing process and all the tools we'll need to produce some great bud.
We need to know:
-tips on good soils for outdoor, where to buy them or if we should make our own soil and what we should put into our soil
-Info about the Hash Plant strain
-Best times to grow in Michigan
-How to deal with weather issues (michigan can get some nasty summer thunderstorms, not sure if that would be an issue)
-How to use fertilizers and what fertilizers would be good to use (we plan on going all organic)
and any other tips anyone could throw at me would be appreciated.

watch out for rippers. good security should be a consideration as high as any on your list.

Oh believe me, that's one of our top priorities. Last season my partner had his biggest plant stolen. We're keeping our plants on lockdown lol.
