I thought so too but from what I've heard the fan leaves are important to bud size. The fan leaves convert light and also transpire water, important in bud development. I am no expert on this just going by what I read in my buddies ed rosenthal book and what I have read in forums. So I cut the shit out of my current grow and will do more leaf positioning my next grow. Experimentation and experience are the best teachers.
 
*Update* about day 26 of vegging maybe a few days more. Slow growth with a 250w HPS LOL.
The biggest one seriously took off after I removed those fan leaves (Experimental).
The other one is showing either nute burn or nute deficiency or something anyone have any ideas?
I have another one but it basically looks the same as the second just smaller.

I will flower most likely after I move in a week or two. or when I make the box or by a tent so I can make a DIY Carbon Filter to test.

They have a nitrogen deficiency. Also, the first two look way over watered. Mine sag slightly after watering but only for about an hour. Any longer than that, and they are likely over fed. Next time you choose pots, choose ones that allow the water to drain out completely from the bottom of the plant. While saucers will catch the run-off it will still have the plant sitting in it. Stagnant water breeds root rot and bacteria and prevents the plant from getting rid of excess because the saucer puts water back into the plant like a wick.

somethings def wrong man mine are 31 days and much bigger, hope you get it sorted, duder is right looks like over watering, could be suffocating the roots (im no expert just trying to help)
 
I would have to agree those look overwatered. B4 watering use your index finger and scratch down a couple inches into the top of the soil. If it is still wet a couple inches down wait a day or two and check again.

Yeah I had some setbacks too. Like I dont have a good grow area its pretty much a DIY in there haha. So i wouldnt be surprised if your babys are better haha.
My next grow when I have the setup I need will most likely blow my first away. This is mostly a test run I wanted to get a hand at diagnosing problems and getting a routine set up.

I def know they are overwatered the reason why was I flushed them all after a bag of Epsom salts spiled over and got into them all so I got as much as I could and watered them good. Good to know its N defiency I was actually leaning towards that because I havent used nutes after I nute burned them a bit ago so I was being carefull. After they dry out I'll start them back up on the nutes.

I always check to make sure there isnt stagnant or left over water in the pots. In each the pot it has 4 tiny holes drilled in to get air to the bottom better on the sides
 
I need to build a 4ft wide and 6ft tall or 5ft tall box or bigger. Thinking about what the price to build that less then 50$?
Saving up to buy THIS from HTGSupply too, as in one of their stores is in the state I live in so I should get quick shipping. Should be good enough for my second grow
 
HTG is GREAT!!! They have cheaper light set-ups than that though. Also, you can buy 1inch by 1inch by 8ft boards at Home Depot or the like for about a dollar a board and screw together a frame that tall. Then, buy some tempered hardboard for the walls outside. Then just use Gorilla Tape on all the light/air seems. The hardboard can be cut to size at the hardware store and any further holes for lights or fans can easily be cut with a variety of hand tools. Tempered hardboard is only a couple dollars for a big sheet. So, with those materials, you would have a very durable box that size for probably under 15 bucks. I used the hardboard to cover a window. It is thin, and CHEAP! I can not think of a cheaper box, that is still worth the effort. You could use one like the above for years. It would also be very lightweight and could be lifted from atop the plants so there would be no need to move the plants in or out. Good Luck!

WOW is all i can say to that HTG link. And id like to say thanks to The Duder, the HTG website is abso-fuckin-lutely amazing. I might be savin up for that $259 deal here as well. Cant beat that.

Yeah I was thinking it couldnt be that expensive. I'm probably going to do that and make my own DIY Carbon Filter using three of THESE(LOL) sealed together with the bottom cut out to make a Tube then I am going to drill a ton of holes to let air thru. Have a ton of those laying around. I have a 6 month old son so that's why.
Basically I'll be using the same method that I saw HERE with a few of my own tweaks.
 
If the DIY carbon scrubber doesnt work then i'll have to buy one. Going to be sealing the box with caulk and foam most likely too
 
I looked at that tutorial. I can't see how it would filter anything but large particles of dirt. The filter in the tutorial is a prefilter that goes around the outside of a carbon canister. The velcro straps he speaks of were meant to attach it around the canister. The prefilter only keeps particulate matter like dirt from getting into the canister or fan. A prefilter has no carbon in it. I suppose if you filled it with actual carbon, like aquarium filter carbon, it would work.

My suggestion: If smell is an issue, which it must be if you need the filter, than buy a real one. They are not to much, even with a fan attached as a combo. HTG sells a small one for under 100. I'm sure you could find them a bit cheaper without the exhaust fan attached though. Some things are worth the money. Like your freedom.

Yeah ive seen a better one in which a dude used the activated carbon pellets that most likely worked
 
My carbon scrubber works awesome. As long as you have enough intake but still have negative pressure, smell should not be an issue with a scrubber.
