Mocking, i think that they are trying to say that if you condemn islam as evil, you also have to pin that label on Christianity and Jews, since these three religions originated from each other.

The ideals and many of the laws are the same. So the reailty is yes, this thread does relate to christianity:joint:

Then the topic should have been, "Let's condemn Christians and Jews and try and make it look like an examination of Islam." This discussion has turned absurd and moronic.

Islam is not evil, It has extremist that take things overboard. They believe in "god" and serving him.

You are right about this going off topic but you are the one that isn't looking at the religion, your examining people. Which isn't what this thread says either. . . . So quite hiding behind the "your off topic" doesn't count shit.
How is the Religion of Islam evil? Back up your accusations.. . . .

Interesting you say that.

Through all of your posts ive seen you make many claims, stating them as fact, when in reality they are your own opinion. You have yet to cite one credible source yet you sit there and claim others are moronic.

In a real debate, which this is supposed to be, people back up statements with sources and citations.

Codeine and I have pretty much exact opposite viewpoints, yet I respect him as intelligent because he back his statements up with sources.

Thank you:joint:

Islam is evil....Christianity and Judaism are forces for good.
sorry, i just have to have a bit of a laugh at this rather absurd statement. and to attempt to cite historical precedent, that's really over the top. what religion can claim altruism as its sole reason for existence? the evils perpetrated in the name of religion (any religion) are so numerous that we could spend weeks just counting them all up and still miss most of them. the fact that the most heinous of recent religiously motivated crimes have been committed in the name of islam is really of little consequence. how can you consider the elitist mentality engendered by religion to be a force for good? sure; many charitable acts are performed and then attributed to the goodwill of the church, but many of those are more than a little bit politically motivated and are a staple of all religious institutions.

Just an outside observation. It seems we have the two litigating parties, pro and con Islam, and I am, in my own mind, neutral. Having been raised, during the formative years at least, as Catholic, and now being firmly agnostic, yet for my own obvious reasons think God, as an entity concerned with the doings of man, is ridiculous, I can compare and contrast the actual doings of the religions, as presently constituted, and make a clear delineation between good and evil. Easy call.....Islam is evil.....Christianity and Judaism are good.

Man is corruptible, not God. People use the name of the Church and God to further their own ends and expand power. Holy Roman Empire is one example. Ironically, the Bible condemns people using God in this way. Jesus himself went to a church and cast everyone out, for they were not doing the Lord's work.

The New Testament in the Bible teaches to turn the other cheek, to show compassion and mercy, this is fundamentally good. The Koran is very hostile to those they consider "infidels".

UTI, look to what it teaches, not its followers.

Man inherently has the capacity for good and evil.....thank God for religion as a unifying force. I only pray it is used for good.

I agree with looking at the teachings

The bible however, since you chose to compare, is FULL of violence and aggression.

Yes it certainly is, however I did try to specify the teachings of the New Testament. The Old Testament was an eye for an eye, and back in those days, I'm sure it was necessary. Violence was the only language those people back then understood, and most of the Middle East is still stuck there.

If your saying the middle east is stuck there because of Islam your logic is flawed.

Indonesia, the country with the largest populations of muslims, has nowhere near the politcial and social issues the middle east has.

So if other countries that are almost all muslim dont have a problem, is it really islam thats the core of the issue?

I said the Middle East is stuck there, and its true.

I do think muslim has something to do with it, check out the never ending struggle of shia and sunni.

Indonesia is changing. According to this New York Times article, the shiny, happy Islam you describe in Indonesia is giving way to a sharper-edged version.
But there is also fear that the global rise of militant fundamentalism has begun to change Indonesia. With democracy’s arrival, radical Islamists were allowed to return from exile, where the former military government had sent them. That was followed by the terrorist bombing of a nightclub on the predominantly Hindu island of Bali in 2002, in which 200 people died, then by other bombings in Jakarta and Bali, again. The government says it has seriously weakened Jemaah Islamiyah, a terrorism network blamed for those attacks. But the Islamic Defenders Front, less lethal but more numerous, still vandalizes bars and discos in Jakarta and beats up their patrons, trying to force the businesses to close.

How can you cite the New Testiment? It was changed by man to fit the changing age. People don't seem to have the capacity to take religion for what it is.. . . they look to the words and percieve them in whichever way suites them best!

ah yes; that wonderful force that unifies one group against another, all in the name of mythological creatures and the supposed superiority of those who belong to the one true faith. whatever the hell that may be.

the force that has pitted man against his neighbors, so that those neighbors may be enlightened. the excuse for centuries of slavery, genocide and every other sort of atrocity.

as a philosophy it is fine. once we label it as religion and attach a proper pantheon, there must always be bloodshed.

What?

I think you're confused. The Bible is composed of two sections, one is the Old Testament which is various stories and history. The New Testament is the story of Jesus Christ's life viewed by his apostles. The new was meant to replace the old.

The Bible says to love your neighbor. No where in there does it say find everyone who is not like you and kill them. It is man that is corruptible, not God.
