ISO OIL... how long on electric skillet?

and i agree its not rocket science, never said it was...
but there is science that is happening its happening all around us

ISO extraction sure ain't rocket science. If you decide to use some heat go for a low temp. I borrowed from others ideas here on RIU & just put my extraction dish on top of a dehumidifier that puts off just enough warmth to purge the alcohol quickly...it gets a bit waxy from the 85degrees or so that blows out IMO. My oil came out kind of like silly putty at first but then hardened to a sticky gel. I was amazed how easy it was to do but it's important to get your material and ISO as cold as possible and do your wash quickly. I think I will still make bubble hash out of medium quality trims but make oil from cured buds only. Quality makes quality of course
 
I cook until the ISO is just evaporated.

Your cooking time will depend on quantity & quality of your mix.
When using 91% iso, oakley says you got to get a boil to get rid of the water. For me on my hot plate, I turn to Medium & get a little bubble stream in ~15 mins.
I try to keep the small bubble stream (boil) for ~5 mins, then back down heat to M/L mid point.
Once the iso gets down to <1/4", I reduce heat to L & watch the dish and ensure the oil is spread thin.
I run small batches (~1 oz weed + 1L iso) and finish in ~3 hrs.
 
It isn't rocket science... but it is very much an art
I've been on this and other forums and never come across the white powder I end up with.. a solvent extraction wins hands down against any bubble hash or other sieved hash

My method comes from ancient texts found near the Dead Sea. It took scientists years to decode and translate this knowledge and then they wrote it all on the sheet that came with my bubble bags. You just get your fresh frozen shit into a bucket lined with these bags. Fill with ice & water and stir it up with a spoon for 15 mins. Then pull you bags, collect trichs, rinse, repeat.
 
Yeah my latest batch of qwiso came out not so waxy this time. It is because my Pyrex plate fell off the dehumidifier sometime after ISO evapped leaving a sticky powdery gold shatter. I'm going to try using heat this time to clear it up. I will start with a hot water bath and then if more heat is needed I got a hot plate griddle to use. I'll post my results as the heat/no heat debate rages on
 
There's really no debate.....pretty sure everyone agrees the less heat the better, people don't always agree upon how to go about raising temps in order to wax however

But unless making wax, or comb ect it shouldn't be heated.......never ever never

If you can you should also do at night and perform evap in pitch darkness

coincidentally I evap in my dank dark dungeon full of sexual torture devices.... vlad the oil impaler. I wouldn't even try to get it waxier if it was ok as is. You need some warmth though and the temp my dehumidifier puts out is perfect...if you can keep it from falling off! I've got a solution figured out for next time.

The answer to the original question of how long to purge on an electric skillet is zero hours. Use hot water bath instead. My latest batch came out kind of like a powdery shatter & hard to dab so I put the Pyrex pan with my lil scraped up lump of qwiso on it into a larger Pyrex & poured enough boiled water until it almost floats. Then I just kind of pushed to air out with a piece of parchment & when it looked like this I froze it for 30mins. Looks like a piece if candy now.

Have you every made a shatter with it? Would imagine a near clear sheet of glass
 
I've made some pretty clear shatter(but I hate shatter.....these days atleast, my taste often changes). The terpenes all have different colors so sometimes you can tell what color the oil will be by the flavor(or strength of)
I've made some crazy looking pink shatter/wax ..the waxes are also different colors...............I pick out my plants that I'm gonna make oil with based on the flavor, how oily and qualities of some scissor hash off that plant, then I see how shiny the leaves are. If the plant produces a lot of wax on its leaves in veg its more noticeable with the n but those shiny leaves ruin hash...
I also harvest a bit early and with the freeze.. always turns out perfect...everyone should smoke and grow sativas

the sativas don't make a lot of waxes and different terps than indicas..always beautiful..most of all the high:) I love smoking a few bowls and typing long ass shit
 
sooo, i got a batch going 99iso. iiiii thought i would go like low heat, 82F with wind.. well, that got me to aboutttt runny state.
soo, i put her on my electric skillet, about 110F< fanned for about 2 hrs.. andd, well, now i have a more solid goo (could here qwizo getting pissed when i had it on skillet, so i removed)

now she sits back in my veg closet. wanted to get a thin film so i could try and scrape some powder, butt not sure if im gonna get the fluff :p

qwizo... what should i do with this, low effort :]
 
Keep it thin and cool....even if it looks oily if you did the extraction decently you'll end up with tc or flaming pies beautiful golden powder at scrape
Then compress it together if its a bit to unstable and make a waxy glob, again like tc)

Now if you want that powder to be white....well that's a bit trickier;)

But if flam can do it second try I have faith in you....


I don't believe in removing lighter terps to alter consistency...if its not shatter at room temp from the start its the lighter "wet" terps fault(or bad extraction)..heating it up to raise your products melting point is never the solution.......to me
 
Mmmmm I'm trimming a couple plants today...one is super sticky and waxy, gums up my scissors...I hate those for hash...I can even scrape it off the blade with my thumbnail.....it smells of nutmeg ginger and holiday spices with a nutty back..quite delish....those are heavier sesquiterpenes .....interestingly enough those specific terps are almost clear

Got another plant (real sour smelling) its straight liquid oil terp yummines..it cleans all the gunk off my blade like a low weight alkane

Just finished a 3rd batch using about .5 oz mixed strains and this time elevated my evapping pyrex so as to prevent slippage which also lowered the amount of exposure to heat. Ended up with a lot more shatter near the top this time but the very bottom was still a bit gloopy at the corners. Im leaving it as is because Qwiz is right. The dry shatter vapes better even though its maybe its not as perty; I use the stickier stuff to pick up the drier shatter to get good dabs. I lost some by heating it up last try imo and it seemed to go very quickly. Just scraped and then just left it as is with air pockets and all overnight.
