yer i am good mate and you ?
Sure that's not overkill on the lights? good question

Trying to think of the best way to answer this, hmm

when you flower under a horizontal hood (600w hps) the light penetration is not very good, you will only get the top 12" of good canopy growth, lower than 12" the buds receive a low amount of light, that's why growers do a sog setup, ( loads of plants 6-12" high) or a scrog ( buds will only be a few inches high but have a level full canopy and often lolpop the lower growth) or top and lst the plants, really the list is endless with different techniques to keep the canopy level and full

growing vertical like ttystikk can give you amazing results but the plants are tall and need to be tied and supported as the buds grow towards the light ( takes a lot of time )

my ideal is to have a good amount of light on the top 12" of the canopy, just like any other horizontal grow, level and full of top cola's

now where most growers lollipop the lower growth because it's not getting enough light I will have a vertical light ( 12" -24" below the canopy ) covering the lower part of the plant, this will increase the amount of light the lower canopy receive and with the side light 12-24" below the canopy the plants should receive enough light to get a canopy 24" thick with good quality buds, so in theory this could even have the potential to double my yield with the extra lights :)

The main problem with adding the extra 400-500w is the extra heat, but that's why i am doing this grow now and it should be finished my the first week in may so the temps should stay low
Agreed on the heat that'll definitely shoot up in that grow room. But I'm guessing your ventilation is good haha. Aside from that man damn diggin that setup. Oh sidenote it all seems to make sense but wouldn't the very center of the canopy still not get all that much light? fluorescents on the sides are definitely good don't get me wrong but would they penetrate into the center later in flower when they bush up a bit? Not a big deal for certain as it'll just be a smidge less in that center just crossed my mind and had to say it lol great all the same Lookin forward to it!

yer my ventilation is good and i have air cooled hoods, just need to add the glass and turn the fan on
this will knock the temps down loads, the 250w mh will be dead center of the 4 plants, so no light from the 250w will be wasted :)

Love this setup. Can't wait to see the results.

When I was thinking about turning an old shed into a grow room, I drew up plans very similar, just using all t5's. {all I have is 110V in the shed} The plan was to hang double t5's on the four sides of the center 6X6 post, in the four corners, {of a 8X8 room} and the 1/3 and 2/3 mark of the four walls. That would be 16 doubles for Vert, with 10 doubles hanging from the roof. The most a plant could be from a light would be 20".

I did carry a clone in there with just a couple of lights, and I fought light leakage so bad I decided not to try it on a bigger scale.

Very nice looking plants brother, got some lemon haze myself at about the same age give or take a week. Gonna be a nice side by side I have two LST one completely defoliated and one just topped way young.

Sounds good to me man looking forward to seeing it in full force! :D
just finished setting the room up and turned them over to flower, I did cut back on the side light but it still looks great :)
will upload a pic tomorrow as my phone went flat lol, temps are working out great, only 20c in the center of the canopy with all the lights on.
temps will go up, over the next few weeks

I brought some really thick Damp Proof Membrane and stapled it all over the walls, then i did the same with black and white, it worked out about £50 and covered a large grow room
so far so good

sounds like a good test, the completely defoliated plant likely to give you the lowest yield

2 days in flower :)
4 plants in flower.jpg

have reduced the amount of side lights and when the light off its dropping down to 9.6c but the lights are off 8am -8pm and i am sure the weather tempters will increase soon.
I have picked 4 x plant support 45cm wide and there about 30" high ( 24" above the soil)
this will give me the support and its just the right height, then as the buds grow 12" above the support i can pull them down to open the canopy up keeping the canopy to about 3ft high

for the next week i will be using a 600w mh, side lights and the 250w mh as the 4 plant are happy under these lights, when they out grow this space i will change the bulbs over to hps and use the 2 600w hps and space the plants out even

gotta be something to do with your photos in your library, even though they are turned right in your folder.
are their iphone pictures by chance?
hi sunni
there on my pc, I use paint to crop and rotate, save them and check they look good in window photo viewer, then upload as normal

thanks for the help

I'm getting some greenhouse SLH and some afgan ready for outdoor and the greenhouse. You definitely got yours bushy. My Haze's are very tall. Already the plants I let grow are pushing 2 feet and won't go outside until beginning of may. (Currently in the greenhouse) Any tips you have for the strain would be awesome. I have one that I'm training more than the other as it's going in a 300 gallon raised bed and the others will be in greenhouse which is a little over 12' high. Figured I'd let those Haze's get as tall as they like. Good luck with the harvest!!

yer keep topping the plants and pulling the sides down to keep the canopy level, over time the plants will get very bushy and keep growing
the problem with very tall plants is the node space is stretched and this is where the bud grows, so you end up with a very large plant with a low yield
or small very bushy plants with very close node spacing covered in buds near harvest (high yield)

My sativa is going in a cage. So I'll top her and LST until towards the end of veg. How early did you start topping?

I started topping when the plants where 2 weeks old and about 4 days later removed the large fan leaves and pulled the sides down, ideal was to get as loads of shoots in early veg on a small plants
then veg them as normal and they grow very bushy

Once you have topped them like this will they retain a low height forever. I trained my afgan to do the same thing and she seems fine with not growing upwards.

yes i have found it always retain a low height if you top and pull the shoots down in early veg, never grown a plant more than 3ft by doing this, most plants only get up to 24"
(not including pot height)
