Let Us Make A List Of Awesome Guitarists...

These are some that make my ears bleed...
john 5 (rob zombie)
robert cray (if you like blues)
kirk hammet(metallica)
david gilmore(pink floyd)

Also, I'm gonna say the "combination" of Hammett and Hetfield is what makes Metallica what it is! Hammett is fucking awesome don't get me wrong! But the two playing together is even better, they compliment each other very well!

I can't believe that Frank Zappa hasn't been mentioned - the 1981 triple album boxed set of nothing but guitar ... "Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" ... "Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar Some More" and ... "Return of The Son of Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar" are classics.

i think someone did mention him...hes #45 on the RS list...should prolly be higher

We havent mentioned Tom Morello yet, hes got a really original style and sound

Good call man, this guy has some skill's. Even with his "style" he is a very talented guy. It's hard to play along to Rage man, especially the way he does.

Also, Kim Thayil is pretty good aswell!

x2

Michael Schenker(UFO)

i think were judging on tech more so than songwriting b/c if songwriting Townsends gotta b top 5 and how can u put Vai but not Satriani when Satriani tought Via how to play?
I put Vai ahead because I dig him more, was into him all the way back to his Zappa days. Satch didnt teach Vai how to play, Vai may have taken lessons from him (like Hammett) but I dont consider that teaching him how to play.

Hell I went to MI and got to take classes w/ Gilbert, he didnt teach me how to play, i learned some stuff from him (mainly hes an absolute beast and Im not), to me EVERY guitarist Ive ever listened to has taught me.

good god i cant believe you lot havent mentioned the very greatest guitar player ever...........me

I agree with Hendrix being number one... What he did to guitar is something no one else had ever done, and it still sounds innovative today.

Cobain shouldn't even be on the list. He has a cool style, but he's a shitty guitarist. I'm a nirvana fan, but lets be serious here, there are so many better guitarists out there.

Frank Zappa is fucking nuts, and should be way higher on the list.

The whole genres of jazz and classical were pretty much overlooked... so the most technically advanced guitarists out there don't even get mentioned.

Adam Jones (tool) is better at keeping time than everyone on this site is at growing combine. Tool is absolutely nuts.

Johnny Greenwood (radiohead), one of the most musical guitarists there is. Extremely innovative and very pleasing to the ear.

Is buckethead on there? Buckethead is like a guitar superhero.

David Gilmore & Syd Barret, if you don't like pink floyd you just might be retarded.

George Harrison, probably one of the best guitarists ever. Only guitarist in a popular band without a huge ego. He did everything for the song, and never showed off. Hats off to him.

I concur with all of this, but most of all with Adam Jones, seriously the way he play's is insane, technically it's not crazy hard, but his timing and rythm are incredible, the drummer for tool is it Danny Carey? Is a fucking god in terms of drummer's his timing is even more insane. These guy's together is a match made in rock heaven!

Hahahaha, I have been a fan for yeeeeears, and I always thought their style was fucking awesome, I guess not many of my mates really understood Tool the way I did, there were a couple, but none that would claim to be fans nowadays! I still listen to them on a daily basis on my way to class!

I think I did mention Adam Jones a couple posts back :P
10,000 Day's was a great album, a lot of political and media influence throughout the album, I guess it is their way of being with the times. The lyrics to Vicarious are just perfect!

Speaking of Tool, did you guy's ever get into A Perfect Circle?? I loved their albums "Mer de Noms" and "Thirteenth Step" they were really cool, but "Emotive" wasn't that great at all.

Greg and Duane Allman
